Falwell was also a racist, as well as sexist, anti-semite, and homophobe.
Falwell grew up in a strongly segregationist setting and supported racial segregation for the first few years of his career. In 1965, he gave a sermon at his Thomas Road Baptist Church criticizing Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement, which he sometimes referred to as the "Civil Wrongs Movement". On his Evangelist program The Old-Time Gospel Hour in the mid 1960s, he regularly featured segregationist politicians like Lester Maddox and George Wallace <12>. He often spoke out in favor of the racist position in those days. For example, in 1958, he said:

If Chief Justice Warren and his associates had known God’s word and had desired to do the Lord’s will, I am quite confident that the 1954 decision would never have been made…. The facilities should be separate. When God has drawn a line of distinction, we should not attempt to cross that line.”

11. You could be right. If he took the express elevator to the bowels of Hell,
he might be very warm.

4. "When God has drawn a line of distinction"
Yeah, when God gave you a brain, I'm betting he expected you to use it!

What a dumbass.

5. He was ignorant.
I hope death has enlightened him. But I wish he could have realized how wrong he was before he opened his mouth to spew hatred around.

8. The Bible says "be ye not unequally yoked"
When I was growing up and going to church, I always took that to mean that believers shouldn't marry unbelievers, that it would cause problems in a relationship. Nowadays, I really don't put too much stock in that.

However, I've heard many preachers and other religious types put quite a different spin on that. I've heard quite a few people use that to argue against interracial relationships. As if somehow blacks and whites weren't equal.

No shit, but that's the mentality that many of these people have.
