Maybe we should ask if some companies are playing with Net nutrality now. |
|
(Yeah I know have of you people can't stand me and can't wait to attack me but I'm going to post this to at least get this out)
My wife and I have Verizon for our DSL connection. We use a desk top computer and we connect to MSN thru verizon. Now we all know what is going on with Google and Verizon and what they are planning for wireless users: Background over.
My wife goes to the following sites a lot-- Huffington Post, Think Progressive, Talking Points Memo--she goes to other sites as well but these are 3 which she does favor and as of the past 2 and a half weeks she has been noticing that when she goes to these sites all of a sudden the computer becomes slow and unresponsive
When she is on Talking Points Memo she 9 times at of 10 get this message:
Stop running this script?
A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run your computer might become unresponsive.
Mind you we use MSN we don't use internet explorer and it is these 3 sites which are listed on our favorites menu that seem to run crazy.

1. The potential for corruption by unregulated control over information systems |
|
is really bad.
All that has to happen is for someone that has a information storage site like youtube or even a forum to think they can create social change based on what they think is best to be seen.
Then that thought could lead to censorship or manipulations of what data is seen first.
The fact that information systems are not open to civilian review means that the only thing stopping complete restrictions or propaganda on all or targeted members of society is the trust that a few people might not do that. How has that worked out over the coarse of history? And the fact that most people are good and someone would leak it if that happened. Although the leaks about AT & T sniff and route rooms 'Gonzales' other programs did not have a large impact.
My gut tells me Google is actually not going for power or control, and there is the fact that if someone did that it would leak.
Although it could happen, and that should be a reason to regulate the industry for reasons of transparency.
The way to do it would be to route groups to different webs, or have webs for targeted individuals by red flag count, and actually I know I am not on the same web I was on many years ago, so that is probable.
I also know some colleges have some routing to them for observational research.

2. I've been having trouble with DailyKos. The browser will |
|
refresh the page and sometimes kick me off. Tonight, I clicked on one of their links to read it and bingo, I had my desktop. I emailed them to let them know there's a problem.
