11. Plague is endemic in some areas of Colorado--typically in
prairie dogs, but often spilling over into various squirrel species. It is a nuisance, but not the dire situation those outside the west might think, nor evidence of some bioterrorist event. There is intent in having the presence of wildlife plague be picked up by national media--who might otherwise misinterpret or totally overreact (along with DHS) when future national events are held here (i.e., DNC)

12. I'm in Jefferson County
just a few miles outside of Denver proper. We have bubonic plague prairie dogs every summer, it's very common. As long as you don't insist on hanging out in a prairie dog village, or pick up dead animals in City Park, or let your dogs chase the little blighters, your risk is low.

I'm often amazed at how long the human race managed to survive over the centuriers, without all the broadcast health warnings every 20 minutes . . .

20. Extended families... Grandma and Grandpa were around &
could give that all important common sense and perspective that so many of us seem to be lacking in this day and age. Now, we have to have programs to send health workers around to TEACH breast feeding and basic child-rearing skills, as one example.

And, we rely on those health warnings and tv health info segments to try to teach so much that is lacking.

25. Sad, isn't it?
What are all the poor dears going to do if the oil/climate/environment crashes and they have to rely on their hands to survive? I'm going to be very valuable because the Grandmas taught me how to garden, can foods, sew on a treadle machine, etc.!

It's the beginning of the end. Bend over and kiss your ass good bye. Falwell had a hotline to god. He knew this was coming and left while he could.

15. As a long time Denverite, I am used to a metro area which is inhabited by
foxes, coyotes, rabbits, skunks and prairie dogs as well as deer and elk.

West Nile and Hantavirus have popped up out here, as well, but not in significant numbers.

This is a small blip on our local news, except to alert folks to be aware of wild animals, however "cute", in the city parks.

19. How long have you been in Denver?
My parents moved us here kicking and screaming in 1969 - the natives say I'm still an outsider, but I say that every significant event in my life except for birth happened to me here, so that makes me a native (yes, I do own the roads, I've been paying for them for 30 years!)

enzootic many years ago. They keep tabs on it. Relax.
