Electing Democrats is the only rational thing to do. |
|
This is the latest sticky and I agree.
If nothing else to hold the tide of ignorance and hate in the USA.
We need to get local pols that are smart and New Deal / Great Society / Anti- Aggressive foreign policy (by real, indirect, or implied violence) / populist candidates that love their community and the nation; that still have in their heart what matches childhood innocence.
Then we need to support them and hold their feet to their roots and help them stay and rise in the system.
The national bias should be for general quality of life for all and well-being of the planet; not scapegoating those that differ by circumstance of birth at risk to the military / economic empire.

3. "Hold their feet to their roots"? And what are we supposed to do when |
|
their feet start to stray?
I would love to elect the pols you mention, but the reality (ironically) is that this "foot-root holding" doesn't work very well.

4. You are correct in that in most cases, it is not working. Still, |

electing Democrats with the hope for better over time is the only strategy we have left, this is the only increment's I accept as evident. Get in their faces if need be.
IMO better election laws in terms of financing and transparent voting and term limits in both houses of Congress. Also the flow of talent back and forth between government and industry should be greatly dampened in a strong legal manner.
I am disappointed in the USA and the Democratic Party, alas, and don't expect an awakening until after I am gone.
edit cuz I didn't spell well.

5. Since when have we started voting the rational thing? |
|
And even if we, the American people, voted for the rational policy or for the Dems, who's to say that the voting machines will acknowledge our exercise of better judgment?

6. Just make sure they're actually Democrats... |
|
Just make sure they're actually Democrats before you vote. I believe recent history shows being a Democrat is about more than putting a D after your name. The DINO's? Let 'em lose, it's the only way we'll ever get actual Democrats out of our unprincipled party leadership.

7. We are strong supporters of Democrats here in PA - we have contributed to |
|
the Sestak and Onorato campaigns and will be contributing more to local Democrats as our finances permit. We vote in EVERY election - I believe there are no minor elections and I am apalled that so few people vote in the in-betweeners...local politicians have daily effect on our lives and I want to at least have a say in who holds office.
FWIW, I have never voted for a republican.

8. You've come to DU looking for rationality? Good luck with that. |
|
What is really, really wanted is confused with reality.
The reality is that in virtually every national electoral race the winner will either be a Democrat or a Republican. Simple. If you do not help to elect the Democrat, then you are helping the Republican. Ironically, this concept escapes many.
