Complicity in bigotry
Edited on Tue Aug-24-10 06:44 PM by boston bean
There are a bunch of people who think LGBTers should be quiet in their plight and let the states, judges, legislators and presidents come to terms with granting LGBT rights in their own time.

Afterall, it is implied that someone who is personally "opposed to gay marriage" is only giving their personal opinion and it has nothing to do with what they might do politically, or judicially, or legislatively.

I call BULL SHIT!

People who do not support LGBT rights by not forcefully speaking out against those who hold such bigoted thoughts are complicit in the bigotry.

plain and simple.

Also, civil unions do not equal marriage. Civil Unions are akin to black and white restrooms, restaurants, etc.

GET IT?

If you support people who support civil unions and do not call them out on their bigoted thoughts and actions, you are complicit in the bigotry.

3. Not Trying to Hijack, or anything ...
I just want to light a spark ...

"People who do not support LGBT rights by not forcefully speaking out against those who hold such bigoted thoughts are complicit in the bigotry.

Is that not what Black folks have argued on this very site? I hope that you remember your words next time you hear a Black person lamenting the tepid response to racism.

It's the same war; even the same battle, just from a different perspective.

You might want to take a look around and comment in the threads where lgbters are being asked to sit down and shut up and be grateful.

also wanted to add a question.

Do you think the criticism of Obama from the left is racism?

I don't think it is. Although some people may be racist. I have seen some racist comments and when I have, I have commented and alerted. Are people here telling black people to be patient about their civil rights?
