anyone else concerned about violence at Becks rally on Saturday?
God I hope not because Fox, et al will twist it and use it as further propaganda. Beck is inciting hatred and rage. His followers are "packin" and many counter demonstrations are planned. While I hope the lunatic fringe is further revealed to the world, I hope that good people aren't hurt.

3. I'm sort of hoping Beck will implode on stage.
You know, when he's in the throes of his "religious" fervor.

4. I'm more concerned about violence breaking out at that Koran burning.
I mean it's one group of extreme idiots versus the other but the Koran burning actually has the potential to trigger an international incident. :scared: :nuke:

8. Wouldn't it be odd if some true religious soul SAW
the devil standing behind Beck. You know all that religious fevor someone might just think he see's Satan and boy would that start a panic of "oh yes. oh yes. he's right behind Beck." Damn if I were there I would lay down and roll all over the ground and swear that Satan was patting Beck on the shoulder.

9. They're warning their followers to stay in "safe" areas
http://paintmainered.ning.com/profiles/blogs/so-you-are-coming-to-the-828?id=2731571%3ABlogPost%3A38968&page=2#comments

The areas they're telling people to stay away from are predominantly minority and/or poor. It's easy to see that they equate low-income and non-whiteness with some sort of threat to their health. I think it would be great if peace-loving minorities and poor people in the area counter-protested with love.

11. They tried that before...
Edited on Thu Aug-26-10 07:09 PM by Chan790
CPAC gave attendees a list of safe areas to hang out outside of conference hours and sent them into extremely liberal and affluent Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights where they mouthed off to residents and quite a few got themselves arrested for public intoxication and creating disturbances.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to get arrested in Adams Morgan? People openly walk around smoking pot and drinking cocktails out of plastic cups while munching down on Amsterdam Felafel and Pizza Mart giant-slice while their bestie pukes in the gutter and their date-for-the-night pisses in the alley. In front of the cops.

I work in that neighborhood. My morning chore is to pull out the hose and hose the vomit off our front steps.

10. We don't do violence. THEY do.
Edited on Thu Aug-26-10 07:05 PM by Canuckistanian
I'm hard pressed to recall ANY progressive causing harm to ANYBODY, no matter how putrid the RW's behavior.

But their record is clear. They WISH violence - and it sometimes happens. Then they deny, deny, deny that it had ANYTHING to do with their hateful rhetoric.

12. I agree. I worry about the counter protest participants being hurt
but as I just learned that there are busses going arranged by the Reclaim the Dream organization, I may be among the peaceful masses!

16. If you're concerned about the "head count"
Edited on Thu Aug-26-10 07:18 PM by Canuckistanian
Just compare the number of deaths from the Oklahoma bombing to ANYTHING done by ANY leftist radical since the 1960's.

You lose.

17. I never said anything about a "head count"
you couldn't recall an leftists that perpetuated violence and I dropped one off the top of my head. He is involved in the violent deaths of several people for the benefit of leftist ideology, that is indisputable.

Mcveigh is a special case. He was both Agnostic and anti Federal government. It has been widely reported that the killing of innocents in Iraq is what sent him over the edge. It's difficult to peg him and his ideas solely on the right-wing Christian movement.

20. Um, The Turner Diaries.
Look it up, if you haven't already read it cover to cover.

From Wikipedia: The book was called "explicitly racist and anti-Semitic"<5> by the New York Times and has been labeled the "bible of the racist right" by the FBI.<6> According to the Anti Defamation League, it is "probably the most widely read book among far-right extremists; many have cited it as the inspiration behind their terrorist organizing and activity."<7> The Simon Wiesenthal Center calls it a "hate" book.<8>
The novel was initially only available through mail order and at gun shows, and partially serialized in National Alliance publications. As of 2000 it was reported to have sold about 500,000 copies.<1><9>

23. I am in the wrong place?
I think it is actually against DU rules to call people out. Besides, Bill Ayers was a violent leftist, no? Do you have a problem with the truth? If anyone should be tombstoned it should be you, I have violated no DU rule.... you have.

15. Personally I don't think
that there will be any trouble at the rally. I think security will be at its highest. Because B---h Beck does have his fucked up constitutional right to have his little hate filled rally. I think that the problem will be every where else. The hotels and restaurants and rail cars. They cannot control these situations. Those ridiculous tea baggers are going to have signs and talk stupid and inflame the wrong people and its going to be on and popping. And just so everyone knows in case they forgot, they are not the only people in the country armed. They flooded the urban areas a long time ago with guns so they are not the only ones armed. And isn't there some rule where they cannot open carry in certain areas of Washington D.C.? Not to mention I find it hard to believe that Howard University is there and there won't be some type of protest going on. And these young people have no fear.Thats left for the old.
