Man wins right to fly "don't tread on me" flag in covenant controlled community
THORNTON - Eric Smith now has a second letter to go with the one he originally received from the East York Villas Homeowners association on Aug. 9. That letter ordered him to remove his "Tea Party flag." The second letter, dated Aug. 19, said the opposite.

"We got a letter from the attorney that was e-mailed to us that said we would be allowed to fly our flag," Smith said.

He added that he hasn't received a complete explanation for why he was told originally to take the flag down.

"The attorney said it was a covenant about advertising and billboards," he said of a quote the homeowners associations had given to an area newspaper.

1. "covenant controlled community"? Yikes.
I'm glad I live in the countryside where the only "covenant" is "don't start a forest fire".

3. How About Some Flags That Say
"Don't Piss On My Yard"? "Don't Shit On My Lawn"? Are those OK too?

4. There are signs here and there in my 'hood with horrible warnings
about people letting their dogs shit in their yard, even if they clean it up. I mean, almost THREATENING signs!

5. HOA vs Teaparty sympathizer? I'd still take the man's side, given how much I detest HOAs
