This Beck thing, just what is it - protest, call for justice, sales pitch, or just a picnic?

Just what is Beck's purpose today? They are't there to protest a war or anything like that, they aren't demanding some innocent man be freed. Is it just a way for Beck to sell books, or is it just a feel good picknick on the Mall? I just don't understand what it is they wish to accomplish. They certainly aren't there to speak to the Congress, neither chamber is in session. So what?

1. It's a Cosmic Event.
The Stephen Colbert Report that my children were watching yesterday put it in the correct pertspective. The Psychoses of the Ages is playing out in Beck's cranium.

Eugene Robinson: "Beck's version of history is flat-out wrong"

snip//

The most offensive thing about the rally is Beck's in-your-face boast that the event will "reclaim the civil rights movement." But this is just a bunch of nonsense -- too incoherent to really offend. Beck makes the false assertion that the struggle for civil rights was about winning "equal justice," not "social justice" -- in other words, that there was no economic component to the movement. He claims that today's liberals, through such initiatives as health-care reform, are somehow "perverting" King's dream.

7. Acquaintance on Facebook said "...as far as i am aware, it is a rally to raise funds for fallen...
...spec/op troops, and was supposed to be completely non political.
whats to get upset about that? unless you like the idea of not helping the families of fallen special forces soldiers? and ridiculing those that are trying to help them?"

Not sure where he's getting his info.

8. PR Stunt...
It's all about getting a lot of free advertising and attention from the other "members" of the corporate media. Partly to boost his sagging ratings and to promote both Faux and his radio gig. It's milking the attention and pushing for more with outrageous lies and smears that in the end muddle any meaningful political dialogue. For those who love Shtick Dreck, it's reaffirmation with lots of red meat. For the majority that see him as the self-described rodeo clown, it's to outrage and keep the tongues wagging. As the old PR axiom goes...say good, say bad, just say.

In short...this is all about Dreck...even the politics are a prop. Paddy Chayewski and Marshall McLuan must be both amused and spinning in their graves.
