SHOCK: Beck's rally already steeped in politics
August 28, 2010 12:28 am ET by Adam Shah

Glenn Beck promised that his "Restoring Honor" weekend will be a "non-political event." This always seemed highly dubious given the involvement of conservative organizations and GOP officials and Beck's own political rhetoric in promoting the rally. And indeed, the first part of Beck's rally -- his religious revival at the Kennedy Center tonight -- was steeped in politics.

Here is a sampling of what took place at Beck's Kennedy Center "Divine Destiny" event tonight:

* Speaker Patrick Lee denounced abortion rights, same-sex marriage, and the constitutional prohibition on prayer in schools.

* Pastor John Hagee attacked the "politically correct fog" that has led the country away from "the righteousness and moral clarity of our godly forefathers."

* While again insisting that the rally is "non-political," Beck took a very thinly veiled swipe at President Obama. Beck said, "We are 12 hours away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America." Beck has repeatedly attacked Obama for talking of the "fundamental transformation of America."

So, to sum up, at Beck's supposedly non-political event, one speaker denounced progressive positions on social issues, another speaker attacked political correctness that has led us away from God, and Beck himself attacked Obama.

Yup, it was a totally non-political event.

1. how many people showed up for this non political
event last night? Someone in their crowd said there would be 200,000 to 400,000 today! Of course, I don't believe it...maybe a couple thousand

6. I wish he'd explain how he's going to "fundamentally transform
the United States of America" today! I've been under the impression that a few thousand brain dead mouth breathers were going to gather at the national mall with teabags hanging from their hats and listen to a few speeches by their leaders. Maybe I'm wrong...maybe they're planning to storm the white house and capitol and take over.
