Check in here if you still support Elizabeth Warren to lead the Bureau of Consumer Financial . |
|
Protection.
Obama was supposed to appoint her last week. Pete Peterson doesn't like her. Dodd doesn't like her. If Obama does not appoint her, that will be the last straw for me. The last kick in the pants for me from the Democratic Party.
What harm in the world could appointing Elizabeth Warren as the head of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection do? Can't we ordinary people have just one person on our side in the Obama administration? Whose side is Obama on here?
Please check in if you want Obama to finally appoint Elizabeth Warren.

7. This appointment is my second-to-last straw if Warren is passed over. |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 03:14 PM by Subdivisions
If she's passed over, President Obama will be down to his last strike with me. And it's still a loooong two years for him to get that last one.
And don't give me no fucking shit! I paid a personal price for my support of Obama and my insistance that I be at his inauguration. So, I don't want to hear any bullshit.

14. What harm could appointing Elizabeth Warren do? |
|
It depends on your perspective. As she would make the buereau work for consumers, there are a lot of coporations and their political puppets who would say she could do a lot of harm.
I imagine she'll be offered the job once all the lower corporate shill positions have been filled. It's entirely possible that she'll turn the job down if she thinks the bureau is being set up as a sham.

16. If it is set up as a shill position, I hope Elizabeth Warren has the courage |
|
to tell us the truth. I have suspected that too. Isn't Geithner in charge now? He is probably finding all kinds of nasty characters to take the assistant positions.
Obama is just a shill for these guys if he is doing that.

|
She is smart, very smart.
She knows the subject inside and out.
Her ethics are unquestioned.
But her best attribute is that SHE IS NOT AFRAID OF WALL STREET!!!
If Obama thinks that she hasn't had enough experience administering a large bureaucracy, then let her choose an assistant who believes in her and who has considerable experience in administration.
It's time for the President to play hardball with the Senate Dems to get her approved, even if it means ruffling some feathers and making some promises.
It's just too important!!!

I asked my senator to take the pledge to filibuster any bill that proposes cuts to Social Security. I also asked her to try living on $1200 per month for a while. If a few members of Congress did that, they would soon make the point to their colleagues that Social Security cannot be cut.

96. I always thought that appointing Warren would create a faux victory for "us" |
|
After all, Warren is such an utterly obvious choice to head the BCFP that I figured our President might make the whole thing seem more dramatic than necessary in order to lure back those of us who are left of center.
But I may be wrong.
When the health care debate came to Capitol Hill, I felt certain that Congress would give Single Payer a seat at the table just for symbolism's sake and then totally ignore it. I could not have predicted such a brazen effort to shut it out completely.
That's made me think twice about Warren. It would be so easy for the Administration to appoint her -- thus earning points from the short-attention-span left -- only to effectively marginalize her once she's assumed her position. But, just as with health care, the Administration seems reluctant to take any chances.
There are people in Washington who are utterly terrified by the possibility that someone in the government may actually speak up on behalf of the People that they are no longer taking any chances.

Liberal, conservative, whatever...My favorite thing about Warren has always been her "That's just the way it is" approach when it comes to explaining the economy. It's a disgrace that didn't immediately appoint her to at the very least consumer protection.

I hate to say. I know what I think.
If President Obama doesn't appoint Elizabeth Warren it will only serve to add to my long list of suspicions. I imagine many DUers (professional leftists) feel the same as I do.

Apparently the answer is "No."
An Elizabeth Warren would threaten the hegemony of the rich, powerful and corrupt which it is the business of the Obama Administration to perpetuate.

It's like we're some kind of Pavlovian dog who has been trained to know when it's due a treat. The admin seems to know just when we (the base and women, in particular) have just about had it.

169. This is an illustration of a chief frustration with our system |
|
Elizabeth Warren is clearly the person we the people want to see in this position, even if the position itself may only have limited power to change anything. It's an issue of self-determination, we feel we don't have any say in our government when they don't appoint someone everyone except Goldman Sachs wants to hold a position. Obama would be stupid not to appoint her, but I fear if he doesn't what it truly proves is that Obama puts Goldman Sachs's interests even before winning elections.
