"Ward said the “The Tillman Story” was released Aug. 20 in just four movie theaters. The same week, “The Expendables,” a big-budget action film starring Sylvester Stallone, was released in 3,270 theaters.
“AAFES selected The Expendables for showing in its theaters,” Ward said
“The Tillman Story” opened in additional theaters Sept. 3 in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and nine other cities.
“In the end, it’s the general public who dictate the type of movie AAFES procures. Because patronage at the box office is commensurate with audience acceptance, AAFES evaluates box office results and reviews in trade journals when determining the films to book,” Ward said."

Once it's out on DVD and Blu Ray, see if it'll show up in the Exchanges.
Otherwise, I will concede your valid point.

I had to drive 40 miles to see F-911 at an Art house. then after the election. some chain movie houses pick it up in limited showings.

8. Exchanges are pretty good at selling discs on their release dates |
|
And at a fair price, mind you.
If it doesn't get the same treatment as all the other new releases for that week, I'll say that you're right.
But until the day comes, I'm willing to give AAFES the benefit of the doubt

Base living was never real that's why my Dad chose to live off base so his kids would see the real world....
I said when this film came out, I was more worried about it getting mainstream play, never even considered what was at the PX or their theater.
Is it playing at any mainstream movie houses where you live and don't mean Art houses?

12. After I got married, I stayed off base, except for the 4 years I was in Germany |
|
Pretty much base was for work, exercise and the Commissary... I wouldn't expect an art house film to get played at the base theater anyway.
But like I said, the Exchange does tend to get a lot of new releases, space permitting.
So, I don't consider the fact that AAFES not showing at the theater to be a problem because of limited release.
But once it hits disc, I think that'll be another story altogether.

18. I saw it at Lincoln (Center) Plaza in NYC. |
|
Not an art house. A multiplex with a corporate feel. But it, the film, has a guaranteed audience here.
It's playing in several spots in Manhattan. But nowhere in the northern suburbs.
Great film, BTW.

|
If not then ask your theater manager to play it.
We had to do that on F-911 but it took an organized effort.
It needs to be seen..... BTW..... I saw it online.. but I won't say how.

We've been lobbying our local theaters but it doesn't look like it's coming here to the heartland.

I doubt that ....since
You don't live in 'elsewhere' living in your area of the nation.
I doubt your area is on the pulse of the nation for political consciousness

It all gets flooded to all of the retail outlets, including AAFES. I do have friends and family out in the Bay Area CA and I'm a movie buff.

Why can't they take Limbaugh off Armed Forces Radio?
It would make a hell of a lot more sense.
I think I just answered my own question. :eyes: Just imagine the DoD doing something that makes sense.

they make decisions based on consumer demand. Rush has a huge audience. The Tillman movie was a very limited release that was competing against several blockbuster releases. If it actually becomes a hit (which I doubt) then it will be seen on military bases.
The folks who run the theaters on military bases have to make money like every other theater in the country. They are making the same common sense economic decisions that every other theater owner in the country has to make.

22. It won't become a hit for several reasons: |
|
1. It's a documentary. Most documentaries are not hits or even money makers. F911 was a rare exception.
2. It isn't playing anywhere. How can a movie grow an audience when only theaters in NY and LA play it?

I have been calling our local theaters and asking about it. Their response: "We're waiting to see how it does in other areas"
Well I am just a teacher, not a businessman, but it seems to me that if it is NOT playing in most metro areas, then it won't do well and will never come here where I live.
