What are Dems doing about November 2010?
Edited on Sun Sep-05-10 02:08 PM by IndianaJoe
Here in Indiana, things look very grim. Dan Coates is practically a shoe-in to take Evan Bayh's Senate seat. Coates has a 20+ point advantage over Dem. Brad Ellsworth, who gave up his House seat to run against him. As a result, Ellsworth's old House seat is now in trouble too.

But I haven't seen much of a Democratic mobilization effort here locally. I was thinking that maybe the Dem Party Gurus have written Indiana off.

Are we seeing a strong party get-out-the-vote effort elsewhere? The real problems for the Dem House seats seem to be in Rust-Belt States like Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Are Dems being mobilized? I'm just asking because I haven't heard much about this sort of an effort.

1. Triage. In other words, we've already lost. it's just that the votes haven't been
counted yet.

2. Privately shitting bricks while
publically declaring victory. IOW, they already know what they're about to lose.

14. Get it through your brain:
I stated my opinion. In no way did I "repeat, amplify or state as fact" anything from the GOP/MSM.

elected in 2008 has disappeared. At least it doesn't appear in evidence in Indiana. There was a HUGE effort to get out the black vote in 2008, for example. Lots of registration and a massive "we'll get you to the polls" apparatus was set up. And it was extremely successful. It was largely responsible for Indiana going Democratic. I don't see any of that in evidence here now. I'm just wondering what happened to it.

10. No, I'm a Dem. But I'm kind of alarmed at what I'm seeing here
in Indy. Who's running this election for the Dems? The DLC?

19. I usually work the polls election day altho this year
no one has called me to do that yet. I'll do get-out-the-vote if they don't want me working as an inspector (my usual job in Marion County). But I've heard nada about that too. I'm thinking that party money is being diverted elsewhere.

29. What the hell is the deal with Tim Kaine? You never see the man.
I guess he was on Faux this morning?

Kick his butt to the curb and get Howard Dean back. Kaine is worthless.

11. A yard sign might be
a useful start. A ltte might move some undecided fool in our direction. Money is always effective if you have it to spare. If you're out of work you have time to volunteer. In other words, don't just sit and complain that the fucking boat is leaking. Start bailing.

16. I always do my part for the Dems. Don't get me wrong.
I'm not grousing. I'm just making an observation. I just don't see much activism right now -- maybe it's early. There aren't a lot of yard signs out; no one is calling me and I'm not getting much literature in the mail. It's just so markedly different from 2008 that its almost eerie.

I guess you're not in one of the 10 states.

17. Well, Indiana may be sort of a lost cause in Rahm's book.
But it doesn't have to be. Dan Coates shouldn't be up 20 points on anyone.

I'm simply saying I don't see much organizational effort being put into 2010 here. That makes me a traitor? Sheesh. What do you want? Just a lot of happy talk?

You asked what 'they' are doing. My response is what I think 'they' are doing. I wasn't implying anything about you - unless 'you' are 'they'. You're not 'they' are you? :P

24. I don't belong to a Dem Club. I've hit some MoveOn meetings
here locally, if that counts. Some people here act like I'm a traitor for even pointing out a potential problem.

Joe: "Gee, it doesn't look like much is being done here for November in Indiana"

Response: "Traitor! If you were a true Dem you wouldn't mention this! Put out a yard sign! Give more money! Join a Club! Get out the vote!"

27. Uh yeah, that's how it works
Money, work, signs, votes... If you're not doing that, don't complain that you don't know what's going on, or that not enough is going on. Moveon doesn't count. You have to go volunteer for the people who are running for office.
