Given the choice between Joe Lieberman and not voting, what would you choose?
Edited on Sun Sep-05-10 03:19 PM by Capitalocracy
If Joe Lieberman were running in this election as a Dem, primary challenge out of the hypothetical situation (ie, no challenge or he won), would you vote for Joe or would you stay home? Or would you support an organized voter boycott?

Edit to add: And you lived in Joe's state, of course.

Clarification: For Senate.

1. I would vote third party or for Joe if it was close
I kinda like Joe all in all. Although I didn't vote for him in 2000, he is pretty liberal on lots of issues..

Joe's not going to get another Democratic nomination. Not after speaking at the 2008 RNC.

9. Lieberman. We'd have a chance he would vote Dem once in a while -
no such chance with a Republican holding the seat.

16. I would never stay home...and vote with my ass for Republicans.
Lieberman, if he were a Democrat (your stipulation) would get my vote only if it looked like Republicans would win the Senate Seat. I would rather have the Senate run by Democrats than Republicans. There is a difference between parties.

If Joe looked like he was going to win, I would vote for the Green Candidate (if one was running), or write in a Candidate.

Not voting is not an option. If you don't actively vote for someone, you vote with your ass for the other side.

17. Stay home, of course. And I can actually admit that here
because Joe is no longer a Democrat, so I am no longer required to either support him or remain silent, as per DU rules.

if its someone like Bloomberg - I would probably vote against Lieberman. CONTEXT is everything. Either way I will weigh who I prefer instead of just piss and moan and stay home to sulk

20. Aye, there's the rub.
Many, but not all, of the more prominent Republicans in CT are to the left even slightly of Joe Lieberman. Joe was the most conservative candidate in his 3-way race with Schlesinger and Lamont for example.

Or would he fly?

You should write horror movies. Sitting around thinking up horrible hypothetical scenarios is no way to live. Besides, Lieberman is not a Democrat.

22. I would decide which was better, Lieberman or the Republican, and vote accordingly
Edited on Sun Sep-05-10 06:08 PM by BzaDem
taking into account who would vote for which majority leader. Given that Lieberman would likely pledge to vote for the Democratic candidate for majority leader, he would likely be better.

Elections are about deciding which of the viable candidates in the election you want to govern. No choice is not an option, because someone will be elected. A tiny third party is usually not an option, because they will not be elected.

However, this scenario you speak of wouldn't happen. Lieberman will never win the Democratic primary. Given that, the election will be a choice between a real Democrat, Lieberman, and the Republican. Since the real Democrat would presumably be viable, I would vote for the real Democrat in the general.
