Rahm Emanuel: 'F*ck the UAW'
Steven Rattner's 'Overhaul' Pulls No Punches On Obama Administration's Auto Rescue But Minimizes His Own Troubles (EXCLUSIVE)

First Posted: 09- 2-10 06:01 AM | Updated: 09- 3-10 01:49 PM

................

In "Overhaul", his upcoming chronicle of his reign as "car czar," Steven Rattner offers an insider's account of the Obama administration's rescue of the auto industry. And he pulls no punches when it comes to describing the foibles of such heavyweights as Rahm Emanuel, Tim Geithner, Larry Summers and Sheila Bair. ...

Rattner depicts White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel as a force to be reckoned with who disparaged unions -- once quipping "Fuck the UAW" -- and who effectively supervised Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner during his first rocky months on the job by dictating his public appearances and staff picks.

He also depicts infighting between economic advisers Larry Summers and Austan Goolsbee and describes FDIC Chair Sheila Bair as a stubborn obstacle to the work of the auto rescue team.

1. Not this again. Didn't we cover this enough a couple of days ago?

Rahm talks shit to everyone.

The Obama Administration, going against public opinion, saved the auto companies and the UAW.

Everybody needs to just get a friggin grip about Rahm.

He threatened to kill Bo because the President kept cleaning up after his accidents when he was a puppy. I'm sure the reaction in the White House was to laugh at his standard over-the-top comment.

Obviously Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama have thought the benefits outweigh the negatives with Rahm and keep him around.

I wish people would stop clutching their pearls and hyperventilating about his language and personality.

Focus on what the Obama Administration did and not what dumbass crap Rahm said.

When it comes to Rahm, it seems like people act like a bunch of delicate flowers who get the vapors.

"I do declare, I am so offended that I shall take to my bed for a fortnight in the hopes of recovering my equilibrium."

2. Perhaps it's Rahm who needs to get a grip.

4. He's not going to change. If you like staying offended and upset then, by all means,
please focus on anything and everything Rahm says which gets leaked by people wanting to make him look like a hot-headed, foul-mouthed jerk. I'm sure something else will be leaked by somebody else who Rahm pissed off within the next month or so.

9. He IS a hot-headed, foul-mouthed jerk.
He does a more than adequate job himself in pointing that out.

He should be out of a job for a variety of reasons but his lack of respect for everyone but himself certainly makes the list.

12. I agree. "He IS a hot-headed, foul-mouthed jerk. "
My main reaction - I don't really care. Big deal. We already knew that. He serves at the pleasure of the President. He'll leave when he & the President decide he should or needs to. End of story.

3. The "dumbass crap Rahm said" reveals something about his attitudes
and maybe those of Obama's as well. Remember Arkansas & Blance Lincoln? Their attitude toward teachers unions? This statement says a lot about Rahmsputin and what it says isn't good.

5. You know who isn't complaining about the Obama admin and Rahm?
The UAW, which knows that Obama saved it from complete obliteration. If Obama really wanted to 'fuck the UAW' he could have sat back and watched it dissolve with its members losing their jobs.

11. I think it was something like "I'm gonna kill that dog" as the President stopped to clean up after
him.

It seems like a pretty standard comment showing irritation. Not an actual death threat.

I've certainly heard people say - when they find something out that pisses them off - "I'm going to kill them" meaning I might yell at them.

Somebody stuck it in a book as an example of Rahm's standard temper.

17. Pretty standard comment? A death threat?
Not in my corner of the world.

Do you say that about the death threats against Obama? Those people are just pissed off?

Good grief.

20. You never hear people say "I'm gonna kill'em" when they get mad - obviously not serious?
Edited on Mon Sep-06-10 11:01 AM by Pirate Smile
Yes, I hear it. Not about Obama. Usually kids pissed at their siblings or friends. It is more of an expression then a threat although I tell them not to say that when I hear it.

edit to add - I'm from your corner of the world. Yes, people say it. Give me a break with the outrage and pearl-clutching.

21. Not since i was a kid
No, people I hang out with don't threaten to kill people when they get mad. And for Rahm to say this about a DOG and in front of a reporter is way out of line.

6. UAW President Bob King: "Baloney!"
This quote was attributed to Rahm by a man selling a book who had to step down becuase he was being invetigated by the SEC. Yeah, right. It has been "refudiated" by other sources.

But regardless of what Rahm may or may not have said, the Administration saved both GM and Chrysler and saved thousands of UAW jobs.

Period.

16. Anyone who thinks the UAW got you know whated by Obama is in lala land.
Obama gave them what by law should have been the bond holders. The GOP would have let all the autos fail just to get rid of the UAW. Obama is the only reason the UAW exists.

23. So, you think the UAW is in la-la land?
Funny that anyone who has anything positive to say about the administration is delusional according to the people who think Barack Obama is the anti-Christ.
