Challenge every teabagger you meet: Name one tax that you pay that has gone up under Obama

They can't.

They just mumble and stutter and say, "We KNOW he has raised our taxes!"

Yet they cannot name a single instance of their taxes being raised in the past 20 months. Not one.

And the reason they can't is because there hasn't been any tax increases. Not one.

Blaming the FEDERAL government for taxes and FEES raised by STATE and LOCAL governments shows basic ignorance of the US System of Government. I recommend a reading of the US Constitution for clarification.

Edited on Tue Sep-07-10 09:37 AM by OmmmSweetOmmm
The price of making a pack of cigarettes went up from about .80 a pack to $2.50 using rolling tobacco. Considering that a pack of cigarettes where I live in NY is up to $9.50, it's still a "bargain".

I am now on the e-cigarette, which is costing me under $1.00/day.

15. Here ya go. The big ones are elimination of 10% bracket, $500 child tax credit and marriage penalty
Tax Brackets EGTRRA created six tax rate brackets--10%, 15%, 25%, 28%, 33% and 35%, based on income levels. If no extension is passed and signed into law, then the pre-2001 tax rates will go back into effect starting in tax year 2011. The 10% bracket would disappear, and those taxpayers would move up to the 15% bracket, which would apply to all incomes below $34,550. The other tax rates would increase to 28%, 31%, 36% and 39.6% for the highest earners making more than $379,650.

Child Tax Credit One major provision that will expire at the end of 2010 is the child tax credit, which EGTRRA doubled from $500 to $1,000 per child. Unless Congress votes to extend the child tax credit, the maximum amount will revert back to $500 for tax year 2011, and the number of families eligible for that amount will be much less as tougher eligibility standards that existed prior to EGTRRA will go back into effect.

Capital Gains/Qualified Dividends The maximum tax rate on long-term capital gains and qualified dividends were also reduced to 15%, with lower income filers facing a 0% tax rate. The sunset provisions would move the capital gains rate back to a maximum of 20%, and qualified dividends would resume being taxed at the regular tax rate of the filer, or as high as 39.6%.

Marriage Penalty EGTRRA also eliminated the so-called "marriage penalty" and gave a married couple filing jointly a standard deduction twice that of a single filer. Tax rates were also adjusted for joint filers to remove the penalty. These provisions are set to expire as well.

Other Expirations Another legacy of the two tax cuts was the elimination of the phase out of the personal exemption, which was gradually eliminated over time. If no extension is passed, then the phase out will resume at incomes above $122,500.

25. Thought You were Being Serious, Ma'am, About An Administration Proposal
Edited on Mon Sep-06-10 10:46 PM by The Magistrate
It is true enough that Bush's tax plan included expiration of the present rates at the start of next year. This was to give people camouflage regarding the damage he was doing to the county's fiscal situation, and bring the thing in reach of the 'reconciliation' process in the Senate.

President Obama proposes to maintain the present rates for ninety-eight percent of taxpayers, more or less, so these people will see increased taxes only if the Republicans, and the likes of Ben Nelson and Lieberman, successfully hold ninety-eight percent of Americans hostage to the benefit of two percent of the country, with most of the swag going to a few thousand billionaires and multi-millionaires.

31. It Has To Be Actually Done, Ma'am
If the cloture vote fails,it has stio be brought up again, and again, and again, and nothing else done till it either passes or the session concludes.

It must be done in a way that grinds people's faces in the fact that the Republicans will screw over ninety-eight percent of Americans for the sake of further enriching a few thousand billionaires and multi-millionaires.

35. Exactly right Mr. Magistrate,
we could wipe out that deficit easily by the right kind of increases on wealth (and I'm not talking about those of us in the city making a good income but barely living middle class these days - I'm talking about those with inherited wealth, millions in salary, tech stock options, that sort of thing). What is left of the middle class has been through the wringer - it is time for the CEO's to pony up.

    without any further action.

Since Obama doesn't have a hand in it occurring he didn't raise the taxes.

5. Everything, PER THE REPUBLICAN TAX CUT, is set to expire.
The REPUBLICANS baked that EXPIRATION IN.

WE aren't increasing ANYTHING.

WE are letting their cuts EXPIRE on the DUE DATE THEY'RE SCHEDULED TO EXPIRE, PER THE REPUBLICANS.

Why paint it as a Democratic increase when it isn't?

Why keep letting the wealthy off easy?

The wealthy FAILED us and FAILED America. They sat on the cash and hoarded it. Zero job growth in a decade. The numbers don't lie, the jobs are not there; what they said was going to happen DID NOT HAPPEN. And they had nine YEARS.

To keep doing something in that caused catastrophe to future and present America is jaw-droppingly STUPID.

Time to start making these selfish greedy liars start paying their fair share.

Edited on Mon Sep-06-10 09:55 PM by Jack_DeLeon
Something is wrong when the lowest bracket of tax payers is going to face a 50% tax hike. Alot of these folks are probably have a tough enough time making it. I know I do sometimes. So when you increase their taxes by 50% that isnt likely to go over well.

Our party needs to do something so that we dont all get a tax hike which could hurt our economy even more.

I say "I hope," but I'm actually not terribly hopeful. I'm past the point of believing that the Democratic party has any clue about how to catapult the propaganda for this November, besides being hunkered down in a corner sobbing quietly. Maybe Obama's speech today is the start of a new phase, though.

We don't know what everybody taxes are or how much they pay. I mean they probably know that their taxes haven't gone up, but they will find ANYTHING to make it not so. 12. Medical
In January of 2011, medical devices will be taxed. You can no longer use FSA/HSA funds to purchase anything that doesn't require a prescription. The medical deduction for out of pocket expenses was raised to 10% from 7%.

As it stands right now, I am not going to be having medical insurance in January and will be using the ER. I have never not had insurance, and I am scared to death. The state health exchange is still too expensive, as I am unemployed - plus I didn't meet the qualifications because I had used COBRA.

Signed,
Very Disillusioned Dem who wants to know why we didn't get single payer?

Think about it: how many would start businesses? How many would quit shitty low-to-no-benefit jobs? How would insurance conglomerates keep up their legalized theft of the American people? How many uninsured "haven't got shits" wouldn't have to worry anymore?

Single payer would not only spell curtains for Big In$urance, it would become an employEEs market. And the Corporate Junta can't have that. Only WE'RE supposed to be "competitive", not them.
