My friend her in Beijing said she was at the hospital getting a friend's cast renewed last night and a crowd of people freaking out with a passed out woman on a gurney came in. My friend's friend was an on duty nurse. What happened is the woman had been raped and thrown in a river.
Scary and disgusting enough as that is, her friend said they see it all the time. So, she asked if they take semen samples or use rape kits. Nope, nothing like that in China. No database and the police, as with everything else here, do a half-assed job of finding the attacker.
Yet another story the Chinese government covers up. This place makes me sick sometimes.

And, in a city of 16 million, that's likely. However, you NEVER hear about it cause the party likes to portray an image of safety and prosperity.

I spent some time there and came to the conclusion that individuals really don't matter. Anything goes and there are no real rules unless you are directly interfering with the objectives of the government or favored interests.

4. It's the same with workers rights here |
|
Frickin' thousands die on the job each year and it's no big deal.

A friend of mine was living in Chengdu and told me a story about a construction project across the street. They were facing a new building and had a bamboo scaffolding around it.
The scaffolding kept collapsing and killing the workers but instead of getting a steel structure they felt it was cheaper just to keep bringing in new workers.
Not sure if it's true or not but it sounded about right.

6. Sounds about right, that said, bamboo is fine for scaffolding |
|
They do it in Hong Kong all the time. The issue is likely, as you know if you lived here, the fact chinese management don't care so much about things being done correctly as opposed to quickly. SO they probably slapped the scaffolding together.
