The problem with burning books... |
|
Is that, if the idea gets to be too popular, it won't be too long before they're burning people.
Paraphrasing, of course.
Whoever said it first was a freaking genius.

I had no idea that was to which you were referring. Now I know. But books are burned every single day here in America, in home fires, sure, but also at the book manufacturers where they burn or trash thousands of books every single day with nary a twitter about it too!

That, i believe. Because those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

11. Heine said it in mid 1800s; 20th cent nazis burned books then Jews |
|
So it was factual statement about the human potential, not hyperbole.

whose books were burned by the Nazis, who later burned people. He wrote it in 1821, making him a rare prophet.
Damn fundies are always burning something: books, sheet music, musical instruments, dancing shoes, pretty dresses, hair ribbons, and anything else that offends their narrow, humorless, Philistine, and bitter sensibilities.
Odd how trying to create a heaven on earth by consigning things that offend you to ashes usually manages to create hell on earth.
