A Big Weakness of the Democrats |
|
is that they allow the Neocons to spread the most vicious lies about them, and rarely bother to give much more than a brief reply. Examples:
A. Today, the MAJORITY OF REPUBS. believe that through the Health Care Reform, Dems. intend to withhold treatment on the elderly. And furthermore, some 31% of INDEPENDENTS and 14% of DEMOCRATS believe the same.
(Just google "percentage of repubs who think dems will kill off the elderly through health care reform" 6th Item of the first page)
B. 41% of Repubs. believe Obama foreign-born, and 31% of Repubs believe Obama to be a Muslim. (Just google "Percentage of Repubs who believe Obama foreign-born and a Muslim" the first 4 items of the first page).
We know that there are many people who are not too bright. If they don't hear from the Dems. loud, clear, and long enough, they will begin to believe the Republican lies through the sheer volume of their repetition alone. The Republican leadership knows this. That's why they made sure that they owned 90% of the news media. Their tactics are well rehearsed. They are well prepared.
How well prepared are the Democrats? I think if they don't start changing their style of fighting very soon, they will lose election after election -- even though they may have the truth on their side.
Even truth has to be fought hard for. What do you think?

1. They rarely bother to correct bad impressions created by Republicans |
|
Heck, they do not even bother to try to sell their own programs.
It took Obama until last week to begin to try to make the sell.
The Congress does nothing to make the sell and wonders why they are about to lose this election???

13. I hope it's a sign that Obama might finally be waking up that he |
|
had been wasting all these chances that could have been used in refuting the damnable lies of the Neocons. It would be great for the Dem. Party for many of the leaders to turn a new page and start a new life. They should have an altogether new style of more agressively focused style of electioneering, pointing out all the Neocon lies and denouncng them in no uncertain terms - including shaming the perpetrators of the lies.

Do you remember Obama calling hate mongers like Limbaugh "problematical" or something like that? I mean, WTF? PROBLEMATICAL?? If that's the best we can do in calling out hate radio etc ,then we really are fucked. And as you said, maybe for election after election, especially now that unlimited corporate money will be polluting the process even more. At least he seems to be a little more strident lately ; "they talk about me like a dog" but it either hasn't truly sunk in (and if it hasn't by now, it may never) who and what our opponents really are, or maybe it's just that they're all just different bought-out wings of the same party by now, or one other possibiliy, that the Bill Hicks theory is operative; i.e., play ball or some very, very bad things might happen to you.

6. Yes, the Dems. should come out often and repeat over and over |
|
again, spelling out exactly where each and every lie is, telling the people what the exact truth is, calling a lie a lie, and keep this up longer than the Repubs. do. It may not be pleasant, but it has to be done, if Dems. wish to entertain the hope of winning any election at all.
About the Bill Hicks theory "play ball or some very, very bad things might happen to you," I brought up the topic once, and some members wrote they thought it was very inappropriate.

14. I wonder if it's because the more independent types are |
|
attracted to the democratic principles and join the Dem. Party. Dems. certainly do not walk in lock-step the way the Repubs. in general, and the Neocons in particular, do. These latter have the authoritarian type of personality. They take orders from above and pass them along to those below. Ever notice that the majority of military officers vote Republican? Occasionally one comes across a Democrat among them, like General Clark. Yes, there is not too much cohesion among Dems.
I think if Obama does not go all out now, and maybe waits till 2012 to do so, it will be too late for him to rally the Dems. to his side. The present disenchantment with him will have grown into total rejection. I think now is his last chance. I wonder if he sees things this way.

3. Withholding treatment of the eldery. |
|
Probably actually is in the thought process of some, I read a post about a group being quoted as saying people don't need education since they do not need it to work.
That is the thoughts of many people only being a resource to supply the economy.
If someone thinks like that they also think in ways of elderly being useless, I disagree with that, the compassion and knowledge they can pass on to other generations is not a money concept. But some think in terms of supplying the machinery of the economy as the only purpose.
Money first thoughts.
And it is part of the bigger plan to keep people scared of leaving job to strengthen employer class over worker class. It really is plain to see. It is about power and control.
The real argument is not if government health care might create some lines for people currently buying best care, it is that the private sector already does that far more then the public sector. Assuming the public sector works as representatives for the people not for money interest.
Current system,
Top 10% get best care in the world 40% get care if it does not cost much 50% pay much for little care they get since they get dropped if needing care, and many do not have insurance or are turned away.
The legislation addressed some of those issues, and the real fear of the upper class, is that some of the care the top 10% get would be spent on many in the bottom 50%, and some of the 10% think that class does not deserve, nor should live. Why I also advocate increasing training and expansion of medical centers, not cuts like some that think in population reduction want.
It really is simple. And hence it is simple, and yet not discussed by some in such simple ways, it shows an intent to hide the truth. Some want to decide who lives and dies based on their view of what is important, what they have, money. Regardless of if having money defines the best qualities for society.
And I am still owed beer and travel money. :)
As far as those that spread lies about good people, that is not the best choice, as said in many places over many years. It has been done to me many times, I don't worry about it.
They will pay.

8. Ours is a materialistic society, and it is the materially |
|
successful few who have the most power and try to lord it over the rest. It always has been this way since the dawn of history. This has been the main cause of wars and revolutions. Sooner or later the haughty ones will be brought down, only to be replaced by different haughty ones later on.
This up and down seems to go on without end. Mankind has not been capable of learning from history.
But this time we have reached a stage never attained before: Science and technology have attained the point where total self-destruction is possible. And human beings have shown themselves to be both intelligent and also incredibly stupid at the same time. Will we self-destruct?

I was going to say, I don't think there is enough bandwith in the universe to fully list all of them in one thread. You'd break the internet if you tried.

Thanks for the link to Andre Rieu. I used to look forward to hearing him. I don't listen to him any more, since I became hard of hearing. :)

19. Yes, it looks that way. And Obama has too many right-wingers |
|
for advisers. He probably bent over too far for the sake of bipartisanship, which is an impossible thing with Neocons in the first place. I think it has become an obsession with Obama, and it only opened him up to scorn and ridicule from the Neocons.

and all stages in between. The milder ones can learn through more frequent repetition. And the Republicans have found this out, and Boy! Are they making use of it!!

12. Definitely. While being defensive might not be a good |
|
quality when dealing with interpersonal relationships, it is an entirely different matter where politics and elections are concerned. The Neocons have upped this trait to one of lying AGRESSIVELY at all times. Dems. can learn from them by being more agressively responsive to their lies as described earlier in this thread. Not having done so is causing citizens to believe the lies of the Neocons, and these citizens would be voting for the liars. We already have enough people with criminal personalities in high places. We want fewer of them, not more.

have been fooled into it. If these can be reached, they might even turn against the liars who had fooled them, and accept the truth.
