Frank Zappa Memorial to be dedicated this Saturday
VILNIUS (AFP) – American musician Frank Zappa is to be honoured with a statue in his hometown of Baltimore created by fans from Lithuania, an ex-Soviet Baltic state Zappa never visited during his life-time.

The statue, to be unveiled on Sunday, is a replica of one that has been standing in the Baltic state's capital Vilnius since 1995, a photo artist behind the idea, Saulius Paukstys, told AFP on Tuesday.

"We're honouring the artist who influenced the development of culture for more than a generation," Paukstys said in Vilnius, before heading to the ceremony in Baltimore, Maryland.

"Zappa was a universal artist, active in social life and his influence goes far beyond activities as musician or composer," he added.

2. There's something in that face that reminds me of
Anatole France. Another free spirit with a very dark sense of humor:

"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread." - Anatole France

11. The apostrophe is embiggened by the crux of the biscuit?
Something like that. It's a perfectly cromulent word, anyway.

The man was a musical genius, philosopher and biting social critic par excellence.

Here's to him. :toast:

I remember when I'd heard about the statue going up in Lithuania, I thought it was so cool, that he had been such a strong influence in a Soviet state. I'm glad to hear he's being honored in his native land as well.

13. Zappa
Frank was "the idol of my youth". He has been a major source of inspiration in my life for the last 39 years. What I really like about Frank is his VALUES, which I've tried to incorporate into my life, and have fallen well short of, for the most part.

If you like conspiracy theories, I suggest considering that JAMES BAKER, of the BFEE, had Zappa zapped with a CIA CANCER RAY, as Frank was going toe to toe with Baker's wife during the PMRC era. I wonder sincerely if the BFEE got to his doctor, the one that MISDIAGNOSED HIS PROSTATE CANCER.

Baker also had Zappa fired by Vaclav Havel, back in the late 80's, when Vaclav, a friend of Zappa's, appointed him as a minister of trade and culture to Czechoslovakia. Baker probably had a visceral dislike for the biting Zappa, if you ask me.

14. Thank you for adding those tidbits to the discussion.
It is amazing the number of people that the PTB do not like, who contract a deadly form of cancer and die years before we were ready to let them pass on.

Rock IP, Frank. I hope to someday stand in your audience at the Garage Band Hall of Fame in the Sky.
