Tea Party Puts GOP on Road to Disaster
By Morton M. Kondracke, Roll Call Executive Editor

With tea party-, Sarah Palin - and Jim DeMint -backed candidates winning Republican primaries all over the country, it’s hard not to conclude that the GOP is committing suicide.

Or, as one GOP insider put it Wednesday, “we’re going to hell in a tea caddy.”

In the short term, victories by former fringe candidates Christine O’Donnell in Delaware and Sharron Angle in Nevada diminish — but do not eliminate — GOP chances of taking control of the Senate in November.

But, worse, the growing strength of right-wing ideologues threatens to shove the GOP into territory occupied by Democrats: out of the mainstream of U.S. opinion.

And, even worse than that, a harder-right GOP contingent in the House and Senate — whether in the majority or not — will make it harder to solve any of America’s huge problems, which will require compromise with President Barack Obama .

1. Hardly a "disaster"
It definitely blunts their chances and slows what could be a smooth, fast ride to a hefty majority. But it will hardly be a "disaster".

The fact is that most people don't dig that deep into their candidates. So just by virtue of all of these tea bag candidates getting heavy press, they have some increased changes. It sucks that people are so disconnected and don't pay attention beyond the surface, but most average voters probably have no idea as to the ridiculous, crazed beliefs some of these loons have and therefore it likely won't impact their votes as much as they should. Especially in a "Throw the bums out!!!" election which right or wrong, this one most definitely will be.

2. One thing I take comfort in is the Dems haven't started
with their campaign ads that will annoy the hell out of everyone. But once constituents get a load of what might get voted in, maybe they will reconsider.

3. If we get behind the Dems, and knock these crazies back, the GOP would splinter
further.

Dick Armey's Dick Army would go insane.

8. 2 reasons the Democrats may lose the senate or house
1. Centrist ideals which come off as being "weak" as in republican lite, or moderate, yet not ACTALLY ON THE LEFT! If the Democrats took a left wing liberal/progressive line and actually fought for it they would likely win as they would appear just as strong as Republicans because they would be standing firm as the republicans have been, but on the opposite side of the coin.

2. largely uneducated, unread (hell can they read other than the bible) and over religious, hate filled people just keep voting in a manner which helps the elite and hurts their own economic class because they actually think that they will be part of the elite someday and dont want to penalize themselves.

12. I wanted to know what he meant by that, too.
Democrats aren't out of the mainstream compared with what people think.

They are out of the MEDIA mainstream, but that's all owned by right-leaning corporations.

13. If the teabaggers win in the elections the US is the doomed entity
Forget about the GOP. The teabaggers aren't going to play nice in government. They will continue what they're doing now. Look at Backman.

By the way where is she these days? It makes me nervous when they go silent.
