Doesn't get a lot of traction because it's not in the interest of the Democratic powers-that-be to draw attention to it, nor is it in the interest of Republicans to remind people what real Democrats look like.

But yeah, the blue-dogs/DLC/New Democrats have been shitting on FDR since day 1...they like to claim he achieved nothing, that the war saved us and his liberal economic policies and aggression towards market capitalism lengthened the Depression.

Seriously, can we throw them out yet? When? Please?

65. Jackson's economic policies were reckless
He deposited Treasury funds in so-called "pet banks", which were run by his corrupt buddies, and most of them failed. His policies led to widespread issuance of unbacked paper money by these "pet" banks and so-called "wildcat banks", which had a tendency to skip town as soon as they had cheated enough depositors of their gold and silver. Jackson issued the Specie Circular, which required government loans to be repaid in gold and silver. A large number of these loans were held by land speculators and ordinary citizens who had been cheated out of their gold and silver and thus could not pay back their loans. These reckless economic policies led to the Panic of 1837, which should rightly be called America's First Great Depression.

When it comes to banking, Jackson is one of the worst role models imaginable.

93. The Bank of the US episode was in part a personal feud
Nicolas Biddle, the President of the Bank when Jackson was president, was a man of letters-- child prodigy, accomplished writer, journal publisher, interested in the Greek revival movement and in learning about American Indian cultures. Somewhat Hamiltonian in economic outlook.

Andrew Jackson was essentially Biddle's exact opposite. He had been a "rough around the edges" colonel who had gained fame by winning the meaningless Battle of New Orleans (the War of 1812 had ended a month before the battle was fought) in which his opponents set themselves up as sitting ducks in bright red coats, and Jackson and his men were only too happy to pick them off. Jackson was also happy to kill as many Indians as he could, and when he couldn't kill the Georgia Cherokees outright, he sent them on a forced march to Oklahoma, and many of them died along the way.

As president, Jackson instituted the spoils system, in which top government jobs were awarded to his cronies, regardless of their actual qualifications. Jackson also had pals in the banking industry, who were more than delighted when Jackson withdrew Treasury money from Biddle's Bank of the US and deposited it into their "pet" banks, many of which failed. The Silverados of their day, as it were.

I don't think you could say that this was "credible for any politician".

9. After the Bush Gang crashed our economy and national security, millions crossed party lines
to vote for the Party of FDR.

And we gave them weird bipartisan compromising with the party that had crashed our economy, instead of Medicare for All, millions of green and necessary infrastructure repair jobs nationwide, and the strictest re-regulation of big finance and big energy.

I'm hoping that two years of the cognitive dissonance of trying bipartisanship with the most partisan GOP in history are finally over and we'll return to good government and a 21st Century New Deal.

Yes sir! Weird and unexplained like some UFO people from a bad 1950s science fiction movie.

"The most partisan GOP in history" They haven't moderated their position one iota since all the weird bipartisan compromising.

Maybe once the President admits his love of terrorism, accept Jesus, rejects Islam and asks their forgiveness, they will then treat him like a human being.

21. Nice job! I got a letter asking me to put the sticker on
my car. It looks like a blue target logo designed by some corporate knuckle heads. Its the new corporate party all right.

Needless to say, it takes more than a marketing campaign of new logo and windy rhetoric to separate me from my money these days. I told them no. Why should I campaign for a group that actively works against my best interests (*)?

However, I see this logo as safe for the republican voters that the right wing members of the democratic party are courting. It is very plain and non-offensive at any level. It would test well among conservatives who didn't know it belonged to democrats.

Change that matters. What the fuck? The change that the left wants doesn't matter? I guess DLC is feeling cocky because they think the tea party is going to mean more democratic wins. The joke is on us because the tea party is pushing democrats and republicans to the far right (in case you haven't noticed). The democratic party is now safe haven for republicans.

The left(*) remains unrepresented.

(*)
Those who oppose these changes that do indeed matter
increased war spending
off shore oil drilling
wall street bailouts and trickledown
tax credits pretending to be "stimulus"
lobbyists writing legislation in secret meetings (health care, net neutrality, oil policy)
warrantless wiretapping
torture without prosecution
outsourcing and trade deals for more outsourcing
etc
