http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/9/19/903274/-Kos-needs-to-frontpage-10.2.10-from-here-onI believe Digby mentioned the march once. Nothing from Atrios, Yglesias. The above discontent on Daily Kos.
When people look for leadership they expect at least the following three things:
- leaders are willing to be judged by (as they say in the business world) "measurable deliverables". The netroots frankly isn't supporting this as they are fearful they march will be small and "Beck will make fun of us". Anonymity and irony just don't cut it with ordinary Americans. They want results, which includes the willingness to be tested.
- leaders are willing to take risks. Trumka has taken enormous risks over the past two years given the (still) heavily conservative membership. What risks do we take here? The netroots is supposed to be the "youth wing" - the unwillingness to take risks is a sign of advanced years.
- leaders know how to deal and reciprocate. The groups involved in this march are doing just this - is the netroots even at the table? does it want to be?
I see a lot of griping against outsourcing on DU (where legitimate frustration sometimes gets the better of people). Here is an opportunity to focus on economic and class issues.
