I wonder if DADT was purposely brought to the floor, knowing full |
|
well it wouldn't pass (the numbers weren't there) but would make the repubs look bad before the election. Dems knew it wouldn't pass this time out but backed repubs into a corner and now they look....bad. Do I need a tinfoil hat? I mean, this really makes them look bad. I hope repubs don't think they won big on this because from what I'm reading, not only here on DU but other places, repubs look like the selfish scum they are in reality.

Everything being called up this week is being called to demonstrate what Republicans will vote against, so they will understand why they do not want Republicans in charge.

2. Even if what you're saying is true (and I'm not sure that it is),... |
|
...then that's not exactly high praise for the Democratic leadership in the Senate.
The situation would be similar to the Republican leadership (when they were in control) bringing the Federal Marriage Amendment up for a vote, knowing very well that it didn't have a remote chance of passing.
Playing games with the lives and livelihoods of gay and lesbian Americans, for the purpose of scoring political points, is disgusting. It doesn't matter which party does it.

8. Would it have passed if it hadn't even gone to a vote? |
|
Would it pass if the repubs take control after the elections?
Maybe this is the only way to give it a chance to pass at all.

3. After the vote on health care for 9/11 first responders |
|
failed because the Republicans wanted to protect tax shelters for foreign corporations, I realized that the Republicans are so fucked up that nothing can make them look bad. They actually enjoy shit like this.
The problem here is Democrats seem to be afraid to make Republicans look as bad as they are. Honestly. Why is there not an ad running every day that says: "Republicans value tax shelters for foreign corporations more than they do the rescue workers from 9/11. Who do Republicans think are going to help them during the next disaster?"
This election should be in the bag. Without question. Democrats could demoralize the Republican party so badly that their own base doesn't even show up for the election, but they are too busy making jokes about their own supporters to worry about Republicans.

do something rash to win in November.
Too many examples of the Dems tucking their tails between their legs.

6. It would have been politically better for it to have passed, as well as necessary policy. |
|
But the 'courage' to bring it up without knowing if a cloture vote could be won was, of course, inspired by how this should play politically for the elections. Unfortunately, the Senate Dems only have such 'courage' at a time like this, not constantly as is needed.

Where is the EO from stopping the portions of DADT that he could?
The vague homophobia and the reluctance To see it really is awful.
