7. They've been beaten into submission by the liberal media |
|
For a year all they've heard on TV is how the Dems are going to get their ass kicked in November because the voters don't want anything the Dems are proposing and they actaully believe that crap.
Forget what actual real human beings tell you, if CNN says something it must be true.
I believe every elected Democrat should be forbidden to watch any of the bullshit that appears on cable TV - Fox, CNN or MSNBC. Instead they should listen to their constituents and not allow the media to frame the questions.

And apparently many do.

I just don't flip out every time something 'political' happens in Washington. Been around too long to get overly excited over crap like this. The plan will pass later - it has too. Shame they couldn't make it an issue to beat the Republicans with, that's surely something to be annoyed at the Blue Dog types about. Sadly, we'd have no agenda at all without them and the agenda would be "impeach Obama" from the Republican majority.

well-used to control people. I want FEARLESS leaders. The only one we have left count on for this November now is Pres. Obama himself. Will he have the cojones? What different does it make if you win or lose, if you can't have dignity in how you played the game...

that they won't fight because they're afraid? There are other possibilities, you know, though them being merely afraid may be the most comforting of the lot.

ever since they thought Obama gave up on single payer and the public option. Neither of those would EVER get through the senate as it currently stands no matter how much Obama tried to twist arms.

31. Obama never fought for either single payer or the public option |
|
Here's what a SMART politician would have done:
1. Refuse to talk to ANY industry lobbyists without reporters present. If the industry lobbyists insist on speaking off the record, then it's obvious that they're up to no good.
2. Fight for single-payer tooth and nail, including making a televised request to the American people (a la Ronald Reagan asking for tax "reforms") to send their medical horror stories to their Congresscritters and Senators.
3. Have the DNC (or some other advocacy group) fill the airwaves with stories of Canadians and Europeans who are happy with their health care systems.
4. Do a little LBJ style horse trading and arm twisting. "If you don't vote for this, I'll call you out publicly as someone who doesn't care about the health of his constituents."
5. ONLY THEN, after all else failed, would a SMART politician present the public option as a "compromise" position. "OK, if the free market is so wonderful, let's see if our for-profit insurance companies can be made better with a little competition. What? You're against competition?"
But actually, a REALLY smart politician would have postponed health care reform until
1. Telling the Dem Senators to grow some spine, and if the Republicans threaten to filibuster, make them actually stand up there and talk to an empty Senate chamber for hours at a time. Also tell them that anyone who puts the wishes of their corporate contributors ahead of the needs of their constituents will get a well-funded primary challenger.
2. Revising Bush's bank bailout so that the money would go to distressed borrowers, not to the banksters
3. Instituting a WPA jobs program with jobs for every type of worker. (FDR's WPA even put writers and artists to work. Many of the legions of unemployed people over 50 would make excellent administrators for these programs.)
If he had done those things before embarking on health care reform, the public would have been eating out of his hand by that time.
