Almost everyone has 1000+ post numbers. I'm wondering if maybe the upper limit should be raised. Me...I'm the unusual non-poster with very few posts, but I'm a consistent daily reader of DU. Just wondering why we need the statistic if 99% of the messages are in the same category. Just a question about the format of DU, that's all...any answers?

1. There used to not be an upper limit. |
|
If you had 3195, that's what it said.

2. The total number of posts is listed in a poster's profile. |
|
So as long as a profile isn't private you can see anybody's post count.

Yours is private. We know this because you have no index-card icon.

6. You know what I call 1000 posts? |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-25-10 03:29 AM by TexasObserver
A good month.
I suspect the number was chosen because people might put too much importance in how many posts they have, and if the number stares every poster in the face, it can become a measuring stick. Whose number of posts is longest? Rather than have that, a system with a 1000 post upper limit on the tag conveys a sense of equality among those who have been here long enough to post 1000 times. Most trolls flame out before 1000 posts.
I think 1000 is fine. I hardly ever check to see how many posts someone has. People who are quality posters are quality from the first post. People who aren't quality posters aren't quality from the first post. IMHO.

7. I think more precise posting numbers should be given. |
|
There's a big difference in my mind between the credibility of a 1000 poster and that of a 7,602 poster.
My number is low because I never could get the password back for my previous account, so I had to start all over.

8. The only difference is |

in the prolificacy. Nothing at all to do with credibility.

9. Why post a count at all? |
|
Just give the date they joined. It doesn't matter what a post count is. Some people spend time posting such inane shit just to increase their post count. How fucking sad is that? MAybe removing the post counts would eliminate some of the trash that gets posted.
