BBC News
reports:
TV show Australia's Next Top Model has announced the wrong winner during the live final of its sixth series.
Kelsey Martinovich had been crowned champion by public vote and was making an acceptance speech when presenter Sarah Murdoch interrupted her.
Shaking her head and listening to her earpiece, Murdoch said: "I'm feeling sick about this. I'm so sorry, this was a complete accident."
She then announced the real winner was 18-year-old Amanda Ware.
Sarah Murdoch is the wife of NewsCorp owner Rupert Murdoch's son Lachlan. She explained why this happened: "The lead kept changing. It was literally down to a couple of votes. It kept going back and forwards... and we ended up with Amanda as a winner."
Australia's Next Top Model is shown on the Australian pay cable channel Fox8, which is owned by NewsCorp (hence the name Fox).
Which reminds me of something. Both the winner on
Top Model and the 2000 presidential election were "too close to call". Fox News was the
first television station to declare Bush the 2000 election winner on election night. All the other television networks took Fox's lead...only to declare Florida undecided
shortly less than an hour later.
So there you have it: Fox News calls the wrong winner in the 2000 election and as a result helps seat the president who crushed America for the next decade. A decade later, seems that nothing's changed for the Murdoch media.
So I wonder when Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and the rest of the Fox News goon squad is ever going to act like this on-air, something like "I'm sorry for shoving all these insane opinions about Democrats, Barack Obama, and the American left wing...turns out that all our reports were smears!"
