14. You can't have a probability greater than 1.

But maybe the DLC/NDC uses some kind of "new math" endorsed by the Texas School Boards. So your results may vary.

2. I expect the choice to be dextrous
not necessarily adroit, but the right choice.

4. Rahm was the wrong choice. So we're gonna see
the right choice this time?

9. Well, I think we'll see a choice that's right
of most participants on DU.

I suggest that we'll see a choice that's right of the average democrat.

And that is largely because Obama seems to truly believe there is a vast middle crowd in American politics.

3. Dean
Dean is definitely a passionate guy, however do you really feel he's qualified to be chief of staff? Remember, this job calls for more than just a cheerleader....the person must be a political pro who's sharp as a tack, be able to persuade people (in friendly AND not-so-friendly ways) and frankly, be borderline-ruthless. A president's chief of staff can make or break a presidency. Obama must choose very carefully.

10. Well Rahm didn't do so well
Dean is more than qualified and should have been there (somewhere) in the first place. He's a doctor, a former Governor and former chair who brought us two major winning elections in '06 and '08. Those Blue Dogs weren't his idea they were Rahm's and they are the ones who made things difficult and got us all in big trouble.

18. Blue Dog Democrats
"Blue Dog" Democrats are the ONLY candidates who can win in rural, ultra-conservative districts. Do you think a liberal, progressive Democrat would have a ghost of a chance of getting elected in districts like NC-11 (Heath Shuler) or AR-2(?) (Mike Ross). What about South Dakota (Stephanie Sandlin) or in rural Tennessee (Jim Cooper)?

Rahm recruited Democratic candidates who could win in those types of districts because it's the only way we could have a majority. Unless these rural, backwood areas suddenly turn progressive (which ain't gonna happen!), we have to incorporate the blue dogs into our party. Without them, we will ALWAYS be in the minority and we will have no say in what legislation comes before Congress.

7. Among other things, Dean and Obama wouldn't work well togther
and to be sure, he's unsuited for the job.

who Obama's COS is??? I'm a huge Dean fan, but this is just ridiculous. Let the man choose someone he works well with and who he thinks is best for the job!

12. I think the CofS has a lot more influence than many realize.
So, yes, I think it's an appropriate subject for discussion.

The major way I believe the CofS influences what happens is in his/her role as 'gatekeeper.' President Obama has some very good left of center advisers. However, it appears the right of center, GS bunch on the economic team were given much more 'face time.' How is it Summers got away with presenting 2 of the 3 stimulus scenarios Romer worked up and not even mentioning the 3rd, most effective one? I submit it's the gatekeeper (CofS) who determines a lot of this.

13. But he will piss on the base and get somebody from Goldman Sachs. Watch who quits GS this week.

That will probably be Rahmbo's replacement.

15. That will never happen. Dean's open and sharp frankness is
totally antithetical to Obama's willowy style. And although Deans efforts during the Presidential election campaign were a huge part of the successful outcome, Obama has significantly distanced himself from Dean.
