October 20th: Spirit Day - Wear PURPLE!
On FB: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1262214349&v=wall&story_fbid=155816791119035¬if_t=like#!/event.php?eid=144778572233301

It’s been decided! On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 boys who committed suicide in recent week due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools.

PURPLE represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality.

Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

* Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh (top)
* Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase (middle)
* Asher Brown, Billy Lucas. (bottom)

Please invite all of your friends. It is important that all this hate be stopped.

2. Why only look at gay related bullying suicides, why not honor all
persons who committed suicide because of bullying, not matter whether the bullying is because of being a nerd, wearing thick glasses, having mild to moderate social/behavioral problems, or simply because they are from the wrong side of the tracks? Bullying isn't more heinous because it's against gays. So no, if we can only honor suicides of those bullied for being or being perceived as gay, no purple. Open it up and make it all suicides because of bullying, I will.

And I'll add a link to the one "It Gets Worse" video from the "It Gets Better" Project.

I found it mildly humorous.

9. I wonder if most people know
that being gay - or even THINKING THAT THEY MIGHT BE!! gay - is the top reason reason teen boys commit suicide.

How horrifically sad.

10. um - this is a serious subject
you're new so maybe you're just trying to be funny and all, but . . . we take GLBT rights VERY seriously around here.

Teen suicides - not something to joke about.

11. My son was just telling me about this...
Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 08:31 PM by one_voice
he attends the University of Delaware and a bunch of his friends(him too) are wearing purple that day. I told him to pay attention and tell me if the majority of the students do this.

When my daughter went to UD a gay student was beaten, and she helped organize vigils and group meetings and such. I still have a tape where she was on the news.

The younger generation will change everything. I have faith in them. There are more kids that care than don't. Sadly those that don't and cause horrible things to happen get most of the press.

K&R

edited...damn can't rec. over 24hrs, but I'll kick.
