N.J.'s Gov. Christie cancels Hudson Tunnel project, cuts 6,000 jobs for union workers,
Edited on Fri Oct-08-10 05:08 AM by old mark
breaks another campaign promise, angers homeowners, construction companies and commuters. Project would have made a second tunnel to NYC, easing traffic and giving work till 2018 and beyond."The State of New Jersey is broke", said Christie. The plan to increase tax on gasoline - which would have more than paid for the tunnel - was rejected.

ADDED: The tunnel would have enabled rail transportation between NJ and NYC, easing road traffic and increasing property values within 2 miles of the tunnel by an estimated 18 billion dollars.

1.  he's one evil mother.
In 1998 Christie registered as a lobbyist for the firm of Dughi, Hewit & Palatucci, alongside fellow partner and later, gubernatorial campaign fundraiser Bill Palatucci. Between 1999 and 2001, Christie and Palatucci lobbied on behalf of, among others, GPU Energy for deregulation of New Jersey's electric and gas industry; the Securities Industry Association to block the inclusion of securities fraud under the state's Consumer Fraud Act;...

On December 7, 2001, Christie was nominated to be the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey...
Controversy surrounded his appointment: some members of the New Jersey Bar professed disappointment at Christie's lack of criminal law experience and his history as a top fundraiser for George W. Bush's 2000 presidential campaign...

Christie has stated that his familial connection to Tino Fiumara never came up during his Federal Bureau of Investigation background check for his position as a U.S. Attorney; he told The New York Times in 2009 that he had assumed that investigators were aware of the connection.

As a known associate and supporter of longtime Genovese crime family boss Vincent Gigante, Fiumara had played an important role within the Genovese crime family's New Jersey faction for more than 30 years. For 15 years Fiumara had been recognized as the head of the New Jersey rackets for the Genovese crime family and in the last several years he was seen as a future candidate for boss of the Genovese family...

2. Christie seems to be the model for other republican governors - and would-be-
governors. He is destroying the state, and his friends and inner circle are getting rich on tax money to help him do it.

I know Corzine was not seen as the best governor, but Christie has already worn out his welcome...and I bet he will run for President in 2012, too...

7. if it wasn't such a pain in the dick to get to NJ from Manhattan and vice versa
I'm sure more people would live, visit and spend money in the Garden State. Seems like this was a great long-term financial move.
