1. I was always told around here that firefighters will not trade down a life for pets. I guess, tho,
they can still keep a door open and eyes peeled in case the critters manage to come out?

8. I'm a certified Firefighter.
I graduated from the Fire Academy in my county in 1984. Part of our training was to go into a burning building and do a search and rescue. You have to crawl on the floor and you can't see your hand in front of your face. You can't stand up because your helmet will melt. You have to keep a hand or foot against the wall and reach out into the room to look for people, and drag anyone out that you find by feeling for them. I doubt that any firefighter would pass over a found pet. I know that I wouldn't. I don't work as a firefighter though (I never have), I only passed the test and got my certification years ago. I did it to please my parents who were not happy about my real career choice as a full time musician.

6. Firefighters Save Dogs Life
Edited on Fri Oct-08-10 01:25 PM by BrklynLiberal

Oakland, California - (Helmet Cam) Firefighters performed rescue breathing on a dog that was found unconscious/unresponsive in a house fire. The dog was found at the backdoor in the kitchen, pulled from the building with minor burns and initially had a respiratory rate of 40+. Firefighters performed rescue breathing for approx. 12 minutes and as you can see survived. The owner was not home at the
time so they decided to bring the dog back to the firehouse for dinner and water.

9. You sure the sticker is FROM your fire dept?
I have seen them at Petsmart and the like but they have no official weight.

Firefighters shouldn't be expected to risk human life to save an animal. Period.

If they do great but nobody should expect it.

10. Um, as much as you want to rant about how right you are, you aren't...
the firemen simply want to help, and they will when they can....only a heartless bastard would think those buffoons in TN were int he right.

11. So that is a "NO"?
The sticker isn't from your fire dept and fire dept have no duty to risk human life to save animals.

Firefighters would most likely attempt to save animals in the course of their duties (saving people, containing fires, etc) but it isn't their duty and a failure to save an animal doesn't mean a firefighter failed in their duty.

Maybe I should take them off since they're no longer accurate.
