1. Well we found out in another thread that our political compass
puts most of us down by Ghandi in the lower left corner of the chart, while our fearless leaders are mostly up in the upper right authoritarian quadrant of the chart. We need to elect folks who actually agree with us politically ...

3. Because it is so important to the banks.

If the banks can't foreclose they are fucked and we know who has the whip hand here. If they do then hundreds of thousands(at least) are put out of their homes, the President has no good choices. This financial crisis ain't over, not at all.

It's the Capitalism....

6. Safe vote: a democratic senator votes for it, makes his bank lobbyist happy
while trusting that Obama will veto the Bill and there isn't enough votes to override the veto. The senator keeps the money and knows the consumer/homeowner is protected.
