Oh my goodness. The professionalism, the humanity, the miners are so overwhelmed and grateful...the families...the joy...
amazing...amazing...amazing...
I watched a capsule disappear into the rock and the miner come out at the top...what a wonderful feat of engineering.
This is a great wonderful thing in a time of human struggle and misery to see that we still can care for one another.

1. I feel exactly the same way |

It's profoundly amazing to see this after feeling so terribly cynical and disappointed in the wars and the greed and the growing economic depression. And to be in an election year with candidates who hate everything and want to drag the country into the middle ages it's exciting to see 21st Century engineering used to do the impossible deed of saving a few men trapped 2,000 feet under solid rock.
We, humanity really can work together to save ourselves. I would love the world to do this to save the planet from global warming and to develop 21st Century alternatives to oil energy.

2. Seems like the first piece of collective good news in a long time. |

Heroes emerging alive from a hole in the ground. Something almost primordial about it. Like the Titans of Hesiod's earliest Greek mythology.

4. I'm really glad they're being rescued, but can't help feel sad |
|
that so many people cheering the Chilean miner rescue are so cold-hearted about their neighbors that they're going to vote GOP this year. The disconnect is jarring and sad.

Especially when I watched the first miner emerge last night and saw the look on his son's face.
That's what has become marginalized in our country, imo. That sense of genuine hope and joy that comes from pulling together to accomplish something meaningful.
So often that need is cynically exploited or manipulated in this country to get us to buy something (a car, a candidate, a war, etc.). Either that, or it's blatantly overrun by greed and ignorance.

7. I agree, it's totally overwhelming... |

I've been following this incredible story, glued to the internets instead of the TV. I haven't even understood a word that was said, but that hasn't been necessary. The events and emotions of this amazing rescue speak for themselves. Mision compleda Chile! Wow. :wow: :applause: :fistbump:
