Googling topics seems to not turn up progressive points of
view on the first few pages. I've been noticing this lately. When I'm trying to find out something like for instance googling "social security is not bankrupt." It takes many pages to get to the progressive sites. Has anyone else noticed that? It's getting harder and harder to find what I'm looking for these days.

1. And I doubt that is by accident.

2. I've been amazed lately when searching even for topics
blatantly progressive and the opposite opinion comes up first. It's starting to worry me.

3. Google ignores both "is" and "not" so what it sees is

social security bankrupt. That is true if you don't enclose the phrase in quotation marks in the actual search.

If you enclose the same search in quotation marks, you will get a different set of results.

Google's algorithms ignore short, commonly used words. If you add the quotation marks, it reads them and includes them and searches for the entire phrase.

It's not a diabolical thing at all. It's a necessary part of their normal algorithm to pick out the pertinent words. Google doesn't actually understand what you have typed. It parses the search phrase using an algorithm.

4. it didn't seem to happen before. I haven't changed the way
I search. I'll try using the quotation marks. Thanks for the tip.

5. I have totally noticed this especially in the last 4 or 5 months.

Sometimes when just researching some fact the first 3 pages will be nothing but wingnut spin on whatever fact I'm trying to see.

I even thought about emailing the DNC about it but Kaine seems so lame I'm not sure they'd even look into it.
