Fundie post from a Brownback supporter
Something some guy calling himself Sisyphus put up, it is rather funny. My comments on it are under the sn Mr. Smith:

Heliocentrism is an Atheist Doctrine
Filed under: Faith, Science — Sisyphus @ 10:04 am

What’s even worse than the debate raging in American schools about the teaching of the soulless doctrine of evolution, is the non-debate over an issue that rational Americans have foolishly conceded to the secular among us: the issue of Heliocentrism, or the idea that the Earth revolves around the Sun.

Now, it has to be granted that there may be some mathematical evidence going either way; mathematically speaking, Copernicus may be on ground nearly as firm as that of Tycho Brahe. Right-thinking people know the correct doctrine, however:

Heliocentrism is the view that the sun is at the center of the universe. It was proposed by some ancient Greeks,<1> and became the dominant view in the 1700s and 1800s. It was abandoned in the 20th century.

Since the advent of relativity theory in the early 1900s, the laws of physics have been written in covariant equations, meaning that they are equally valid in any frame. Heliocentric and geocentric theories are both used today, depending on which allows more convenient calculations

It seems clear that it may occasionally be convenient to assume that the calculations of Copernicus and Kepler were mathematically sound. However, for both moral and theological reasons, we should always bear in mind that the Earth does not move. If it moved, we would feel it moving. That’s called empiricism, the experience of the senses. Don’t take my word for it, or the evidence of your own senses, Copernicans.

1. This must be sarcasm.
Is it really possible for anyone to be that stupid and still be able to write?

5. I don't think it is
Judging by later comments downthread by the original author, he looks like he's dead serious.

13. I thought the same thing - the author was joking - until I read about 50 of his comments
I suspect he took the name "Sisyphus" about a man - mostly on his knees rolling a rock uphill - to avoid thinking of what he really wants to do on his knees.

3. Geocentrism is gaining traction in the fundie community
they're starting to figure that if they can believe in creationism, geocentrism must also follow.

I say, good and great! I hope they start making it an issue very soon at school board meetings. All the more we can slap the nutcase label on them.

10. I honestly can't tell the difference between satire and reality...
any more. This country is so messed up. We are told up is down and 2 + 2 = 5 every day, and we're fully expected to just deal with it.

I mean, Sisyphus? Rolling the rock up the hill for all eternity? But he's pretty convincing . . .

Just English so he could be this well spoken.

And CSIS 100 so he could actually use his computer and the internet.

19. No we should give him coverage
After we figure out a way to make sure Brownback gets the GOP nom, its a perfect example of the type of knuckledraggers that love him.

20. I think the blogs4brownback site is satire
but, as far as I can tell, this site is a real Colorado conservative site - and they think it's real: http://www.totheright.org/?p=459

In any case, the fixedearth.com site from which a lot of the nuttiness comes from is genuine - it was the site at the centre of the Georgia/Texas state senators "Copernicanism is a Jewish plot" brouhaha a couple of months ago. But there is potential for mischief here - if some Republicans think they have to worry about anti-semitic nutcases among their supporters, it will distract them, at least.

21. Not hard to make this an issue
It is entirely possible that there are some people on there who are genuine believers in what is being said. That and the OP there is waaay too vehement and consistent for me to think its just a joke.

22. Dumbest, most willfully ignorant fundie EVER
This really retires the title for good. I mean, really, how ignorant can this individual be? Jeebus, how can anyone this to-the-bone cretinous even manage to turn on and use a computer? "Earth does not move"?

This is actually frightening. Even more frightening is that these sub-morons vote. :scared:
