Voter Turnout in NV is High--Isn't That Good for Us???
Saw several reports today on NV's first day of early voting. They said the turnout was high and that there are lines and waits at the voting places. Rule of thumb was always that high turnout favors the Dems...but do you think that holds true in this particular race in that there is a whole load of batshit crazies who are dying to get their hands on a ballot!?? One other thought: wouldn't you think that after all these years of Reid representing NV that there would be a good, organized Reid/Dem machine going out there which would be enough to inch him over the finish line? Do you think Reid will survive?

1. I don't know -- an awful lot of batshit crazies had to turn out to get
these people on the ballot to begin with, so I don't know if conventional wisdom applies any more. These are uncharted times we're living in, IMO.

13. Actually, I think the reverse got the batshit crazies in
Consider: if a teanutter bested an incumbent or the party-favored challenging candidate, it took *every* *single* *one* of the teanutter's posse to get them elected.

This leaves a lot of disaffected - if not downright pissed off - repubicans willing to sit it out.

I think high turnout favors the Democrats.

3. Who knows. The corporate media will probably spin it as "angry voters line up to oust Reid"

4. Usually - high turnout equates to Democrat wins
For years the GOP has worked hard to suppress voters, but with the wild teabagger element thrown in, we have to wait and see what those bat-shit crazies are up to next.

5. Doesn't it depend on where it is heaviest.
Aren't most of the Dem voters in the LV area?

9. Overall higher turnout is good for Democrats - Reid is ahead by double digits with Registered Voters
However, higher turnout on one day does not necessarily indicate higher turnout overall. It could be making turnout lower in subsequent days. We'll have to wait.

11. But it is a comment on "enthusiasm"
Good to see the so-called apathetic Dem voters queuing up early to vote.

12. Higher voter turnout is always good for DEMS
reps love it when no one shows up and they squeak by in races.

15. The old saying goes that
on election day, the Democrats pray for sunshine and the Republicans pray for rain.

16. Reid's GOTV machine will be awesome...
Probably few operations could rival it.

Still, he is awfully unpopular and the state is really suffering a serious recession.

Also, Republicans have been turning out in huge numbers in their primaries so far this year. I am not so sure that high early voting turnout is necessarily good for us.

It might be very close, but if Reid loses it will not be because of a poor GOTV effort.

favor the democratic party!
