Are you willing to defend Democratic Party principles against Republican principles..? |
|
...Straight up?
Do you think Democratic Party principles are superior?
Or do you think they are equal and some principles of the Republican Party are superior to the Democratic Party?
Or perhaps you think they are pretty much the same?
Are you willing to debate what your Party stands for as opposed to the Republican Party?
Or perhaps you think there are times we should compromise these principles, such as when we are running in conservative districts and states, because they are not strong enough to appeal to some folks, like conservative principles would?
How far are you willing to go to defend Democratic Party principles?
And do you not think this Democratic Party stands for those principles?

12. I do know who I am, I know what I believe in, and I know the standard |
|
platform of the Democratic party.
My question was what the republican party stands for what their platform is. I would think that my question would have been obvious.

First it was anybody but Bush. Now it's Popular Front Against Teabaggers, But With "Reasonable Republicans" like Condi Rice.

22. Oh, my God, what did I miss? Someone called Condi Rice a "Reasonable Republican."? |
|
In what universe? Because in this one, she's a Neocon and a war criminal. Especially a war criminal. That she and her fellow war criminals haven't been brought up on charges is one of the biggest indicators that this country has lost its moral compass (if we really ever had one - that's a whole, very complicated discussion right there!).
"Reasonable Republican"!?! Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor.

But yeah, even if you are a troll and I really have no way of knowing, this thread does lend it self to a bit of mocking, whether it's from someone actually on the team or one pretending to be.

7. I'm old enough that my family was union - and we always voted democrat. |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-16-10 10:47 PM by TBF
I was born in the 60's - when people were still under the illusion there was a middle class. And at that time there really were factory jobs in this country, and average high school graduates could have a job that would provide for their families. It wasn't fancy, but my parents always owned a home and two relatively new cars. People didn't worry about "downsizing" constantly - that really didn't hit until the 80's.
Now I look at this party and wonder what FDR would think of it.

6. Another Democrat Abandoned By Her Party |
|
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/17/us/politics/17lincoln.html?hpSenator Lincoln of Arkansas. As usual, the Dems refuse to fight for their own members. As an indy, this is the principle reason why I refuse to join this party though I vote for its candidates. Kiss the Democratic majority goodbye!

9. Current Democratic "principles" are like those school rules you have on paper - |
|
Everyone knows you're not supposed to do <blank>. It's right there in the student handbook. But some people enforce it and others don't. So when the parent gets upset because you kicked Johnny out of class for doing <blank>, and tells you "Mr. Smith doesn't kick kids out for that! What's the matter with YOU?" - it's really easy to say, "Screw it - I don't need this shit." Now, nobody kicks kids out for <blank> - but <blank> is still in the handbook.
So is it a rule or not?
We have platform planks, but it doesn't seem to matter to anyone at all. ANYONE can run as a Dem and garner support, no matter WHAT they espouse. In fact, we have people who AREN'T Dems actually being supported OVER Dems right here on this site!
So - do we have principles or not? We have them on paper, and I like them for the most part - but I believe they're all a bunch of bullshit because no one pays the slightest bit of attention to them.

Do they have to be diluted to compete with conservative principles? Or why?

They have principles, it's just that they are selfish, very selfish. And humans, especially American Republicans have forgotten the concept of live together or die alone.

That said, I believe that much of this current Democratic Party does not live up to it's espoused principles. And in the long view, we need to destroy the DLC and kick every blue dog back to their doghouses but as usual, we've ignored the problem until the last minute so we get stuck with all the crap because the Republicans really do follow their values and their values suck.

26. We should not confuse "programs" with principles. |

Principles are enduring. Such as equality, fairness, and compassion. Programs should reflect those principles.
