1. CNN Poll: Do you like it when CNN attacks the character of elder statesmen?
When it's Whitehouse handlers tell them to do so?

21. Yes!
I want BBC News 24 hours a day in the US! I would watch that like I used to watch CNN.

Oh, & Carter is increasingly relevant, while Bush is increasingly irrelevant.

4. I voted "no" but I gotta admit I think he is irrelevant
and he proved it by his abrupt 180 after his relevant assessment of the bush administration as the worst in history was questioned by the establishment media. He needs to just STFU if he has no more spine than that.

5. The question ought to be: "How inappropriate is it for the WH to make such a statement about
a former president?".

I don't care what Carter said. He's a citizen and he has a right to an opinion. For the WH to attack an individual in such a way is uncouth, unprofessional, and just overall distasteful. These people suffer from the soft bigotry of extremely low expectations.

6. Carter hs been the most significantly relevant Ex-Pres that we have
IMO. He has championed so many causes and not been afraid to speak truth to power.

12. republicans projecting again
It's bush who is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

No popular support.

No support for his war.

Wolfowicz down, maybe Gonzo following in his footsteps.

Scandals everywhere.

14. let me see.....carter irrelevant?
the "news" still thinks he is
he still gets asked to oversee elections around the world
he`s devoted his life to ridding africa of water born diseases
still active in habitat for humanity
still teaches sunday school
was responsible for starting development of the weapon systems in the 1980`s
was responsible for the carter doctrine
stood up to russia and boycotted the Olympics, froze grain shipments
although he did not want to go into iran he did.
george bush and crew cut a deal with iran for the hostages before the election
stagflation

i`d say he still is and so does the rest of the world.

16. The reason they smear him
is because he is relevant. It doesnt matter if you agree with his politics or not. People see Carter as a very good and honest man, therefore his opinion is very relevant. There would be no reason to trash him otherwise. and the viciousness of those attacks shows this.

19. Most ex Presidents are increasingly irrelevant.... but still he's more relevant than any other alive

with the possible exception of the Big Dog, but he's been pretty low key the last 6+ years.

20. Carter has MONITORED ELECTIONS -- of course they want to marginalize him!
For precisely that activity, he has been more relevant than just about any president (post-Founding Fathers, anyway) in retirement.
