Al Gore Has Already Won a Popular Vote
From AAR's The Young Turks' Cenk Uygur:

No matter what you think of the electoral mess in the 2000 election, Al Gore won the popular vote. It's easy to forget that, but that should be drilled in everyone's head - Al Gore has already won a presidential election based on popularity.

Now, let me ask you an obvious question -- how many people do you think who voted for Al Gore in 2000 now regret that vote and think, "Man, I really should have voted for George Bush instead?" My guess is out of the 51 million people who voted for Gore, not more than 11 people feel that way.

And they are on some serious medication.

Everyone who voted for Gore in 2000 would love to get a chance to do it again. And I suspect a ton of people who voted for Bush would also vote for Gore if they were allowed to make up for their mistake.

4. I'm with you 150%.
If the straw poll my bumper sticker induces is any indication, Gore is far and away our best and most unifying candidate.

5. I'm not so sure about that last part.

"Everyone who voted for Gore in 2000 would love to get a chance to do it again," that is. Quite a few people simply held their noses and voted for him, considering him the better of two bad candidates--and the same, of course, went for Mr. Bush. 2000 was not the most thrilling race we've had; Gore at that point was a bit of a bore, and he tacked right at the same time Bush tacked left--if you only watched the debates, you'd have thought they were running from the same party.

Gore won, and I'd like to see him run again, but let's not delude ourselves into thinking he was a beloved champion. America thought he was just barely better than Bush.

13. I completely disagree. Gore and Bush were nothing alike in the

debates.

Gore had completely different ideas on every subject and defended them succinctly. He handed Bush his ass in those debates. Anyone who thinks differently was watching--but not LISTENING.

Al needs to run again, and will surely win if he does.

On edit: "America thought he was just barely better than Bush." No. The race was tight, but the people who supported Gore (everyone I know, anyway) thoroughly disliked Bush, and thoroughly supported Gore. It wasn't that people liked Gore a 'little' better. The intensity of like/dislike is not what the outcome represented.

6. I can't wait until he announces he's running again!
IMHO, he's the only one that has the experience to get our global respectability back.

7. And how many actually care about the Constitutional abuses of Bush and want to fix them themselves?

Nice to know his words yesterday made such an impact on making people realize what his book is really about. :sarcasm:

9. He won because he got a significant number of white male votes
in the Heartland.

Something I worry we won't do with our current front-runners. :(

BTW, who just got an email from Al Gore regarding his new book? :)

11. Kerry won 59 million in '04 and Bush 62 million (or so they say) so
we will need more than 51 million in '08--but its a good base to start with.
