However, despite all the appeals for calm, the reality is that outrage and indignation are powerful forces in politics. Look at the Democrats' recent history.
In 2006 and 2008, liberals were furious over the presidency of George W. Bush. That energy helped the Democrats win control of Congress in 2006 and the White House two years later.
This year, conservatives are in a fury - and it's no coincidence they're favored to take back the House and make big gains in the Senate on Tuesday.
It's fine to crack jokes and urge everyone to be more kumbaya, but the liberals who worship Stewart should not fall victim to a long-standing criticism once summed up by poet Robert Frost, who said, "A liberal is a man too broadminded to take his own side in a quarrel."
Sounds like good advice to me.

just when I think we've got it made someone like you comes along who is grounded in reality and make sense. Then I have to go back and put things back into perspective.
Of course, you're right - damnit.

5. Another example of the hyperbolic descriptions that divide us |
|
The author paints simple fans of a comedy show host as "worshippers".
It's inaccurate, exhausting and alienating.

6. Go ahead then and throw people like KO, Ed Shultz, Grayson, etc. |
|
under the bus of 'too divisive' (as did Stuart). Go ahead and try to meet the teabagging loons 'in the middle'. Go ahead and try to 'compromise' with them. Good luck, sucker.

8. Why are they in a fury, though? |
|
THAT'S the million dollar question.
The White House has been in Democratic hands for less than two years, but this "movement" fired up about 1.9 years ago.
They are in a FAKE fury, fueled by Republican big donors, and their fury is nothing more than bullshit with no substance (KILL OBAMACARE! GUNS NOT GAYS! THE LIBERALS ARE SOCIALIST FASCISTS!).
They are angry because they are getting away with claiming to NOT be the same people as the people who fucked up our country as little as 1.9 years ago. Even thought they are.
Fuck them...they are just rebranding brilliantly in order to pull the wool over everyone's eyes, again.
Don't..fucking..buy it!

9. I love Washington Post about civil discourse |
|
First they show that the rally was not a bunch of hate monglers like Becks and second what did the want them to do. Throw women on the ground and stomp on their heads. I mean that seems to be the republican way. I think we should stomp on the MINDS of some of those people, oh if only we knew how maybe we could get some of the hate and violence out. ALONG WITH THE STUPIDITY.....
