I agree with Jon's message of unity, but I disagreed with |
|
Him equating Keith and Ed with the Faux news talking heads. Both Keith and Ed were responding to the outright lies that were put out there by the right-wing parrots. Those people are bullies and should be treated as such. My son went to the rally and said when Keith and Ed's clips were included in the montage, people booed and it was a "WTH" moment. I would like to ask Jon how would he like us to respond to the bullies on the right? It seems the folks on the left are the ones who are always told to compromise.

2. sometimes I wonder if it's more about ratings and ego for all of the talking |
|
heads including Stewart and Colbert. I'm sure the rally will increase their ratings.
Ok so I'm a little jaded.

I'm one who is very aware of the false equivelency game much of the "punditry" loves to play, but I didn't see that in Jon's message. He was painting a picture of an industry that has risen over the past 15 years that claims to be news but is loaded with opinion. While all will agree the indictment of faux being totally fact free is almost a given...and their demeogagory was a majority of the clips shown, however there is also a degree of verbal verbosity at CNN and MSNBC...and noted as it should be. The clip of KO going over-the-top on Scott Brown was, even by his own admission, over the top and out of line. It doesn't distract from the job Olberman has done over the years but at times he's let ego and emotion get ahead of facts and that's what was being shown. The same goes for Big Ed. I enjoy when he gets on his soapbox but there are times when he'll do his own "psycho talk".
Part of this comes with the territory. In the competitive world these networks exist, the squeaky wheel gets the grease...meaning the ratings and the money. It's an industry that thrives on controversy and its ability to manipulate stories...many times to divide. This was a big part of Jon's message...and yes, there are times I will even point a finger at Jon for doing his own over-the-top shtick...but that's not the point. The fact that Keith let his ego show on his twitter kinda proves Jon's point...and we'll see if KO follows up on it tonight.
BTW...note that there wasn't a clip of Rachel. Methinks its cause she is the rare breed that tries to put the emotion on hold and let the story do the talking. No "Special Comments" or any real editorializing...she lets the viewer do that.

6. Rachel certainly DOES editorialize on occasion - she's taken |
|
the administration to task big-time over the whole DADT repeal thing more than once recently.

Yes, Rachel has been outspoken on DADT as well as hidden corporate money, but it was not in the context of a "Special Comment" which by Olberman's own admission is a separate segment from the news part of his show. Her opinions are built into the content...something rare and what makes her show stand out.

9. I don't equate them with what they say, but how the supporters of each fall all over their words |
|
as though they were the most brilliant and wise lines ever uttered. Both sides preach to their perspective choirs who ecstatically shout "Amen!" while the opposing side thinks they are morons.

10. Um, you do realize they have the same core constituent, right? |

If not, have I ever got a Correspondence dinner video to show you from a few years ago.
They threw a few in from our side as red meat so the pundits couldn't for sure tell where they were coming from. It was an indictment of the 24hour/msm bubble headed talking bloviators. And it was a reminder to us to ignore them as much as possible because they are turning us fearful.
