Demands for corporate rates don't always work

I work at a hotel which has a nationally known name. What most people don't understand is that when you go to a hotel with Brand Name X on it chances on it is Independently owned . Meaning people pay for the name of the brand and agree to keep the hotel at the Brands standard but can't honor all things negotiated by other hotels with brand X name. Now these independent companies will negotiate discount prices for certain companies organizations non profits ETC.. BUT when you go in saying you are a member of This Company Or this group I'd like the discount rate IF that hotel does not have an agreement for that rate They can't honor that rate.


So Here I am doing my job. Man comes in gives the club card for the hotel so he can get the points. Tell him the price is Y amount of dollars. No I work for halliburton I want the halliburton rate.

Sorry sir we do not have a halliburton rate.

No quit lying to me. Halliburton has a deal with your company and I want that rate.

I am sorry so but this hotel is independently owned and here is a list of companies we have rates with and as you can see halliburton is not on there. If you would like the room it will be Y dollars or you may go back to the cab and see if any other hotels can honor that rate.

I'll take the room but I'm talking to your manager in the morning and you won't have a job.

You are more than welcome to speak to my manager and they will say the same thing.

You won't have a job when you come in next time.
