1st Time Voting in Florida |
|
Pinellas County, Palm Harbor.
LOTS of Rubio signs up and down the street leading to the polling place - but far enough to not break the law. There was a steady flow of voters, but nothing overwhelming. The poll workers were polite, helpful, and knowledgeable. No complaints so far...
After much deliberation, I had decided to vote for Meek over Crist. I figure (with great disappointment) that neither are likely to win anyway, so why not vote my heart instead of my pragmatism? SO I walk in, ready to vote a straight Dem ticket, and...
I am not on the voter registration list. I have no proof I registered, but I know I did over a year ago when I first moved here from Utah.
There is no "Immediate Registration" in Florida, so I had to fill out a provisional ballot.
Upside - YEAH! PAPER BALLOTS! Downside - My vote may not count :(
I recommend that ANY Dem who does not feel comfortable with Vote Machines walk in without ID, or any other qualifier, and ask for a provisional ballot. Give yourself a few extra minutes, and be up on local issues so you can quickly move through your votes.
All in all it was easy-breezy. I still voted straight Dem, but I had to do it manually. My only compliant on my first Florida vote experience was the registration glitch. I'll get a letter w/in 30 days stating whether my vote was counted or not, and why, and I'm cautiously confident that they'll find my registration and count me.
If not, then shame on me for not keeping some proof. Won't catch me with my vote down again...
Now go vote :)

2. That's funny. St Augustine too. |

I went with my parents, who are in their 70's. Mom commented about how many old people there were. She looked like a youngster compared to the crowd!
