Resident's Car Collection Frustrates Covina Community
Residents say one neighbor owns nearly 50 cars that are parked everywhere.

COVINA ( KTLA) -- A collection of nearly 50 cars that is parked on the streets is revving-up the tempers of neighbors in an unincorporated community of Covina. According to several neighbors and DMV records, the cars belong to 51 year old Mark Shoff who lives in the 16000 block of Kingside Drive.

Shoff keeps five unregistered vehicles in the driveway of his home and at least 43 over vehicles are parked in the neighborhood's surrounding streets.

Residents say they are frustrated because the cars are an eye-sore in their neighborhood. A petition to have the cars removed was circulated and signed by many neighbors.

One neighbor says she even writes Shoff notes, asking him to please stop taking up parking spots.

"I've watched him go up to the car and take the notes off and rip them up and leave them there," Caroline Bermude told KTLA.

The county took action by assigning 'street sweeping days' to some of the surrounding streets. The Department of Public Works has sent parking enforcement officers to ticket cars that have been parked for more than 72 hours.
However, Shoff apparently moves the cars a few inches forward and erases the chalk marks on the tires.

1. Are those vehicles all registered and insured?
Around here you are only allowed 2 unregistered vehicles parked off the street.

5. Ah, you must live in an incorporated town.
Unincorported towns very rarely have such finely tune rules.

14. Yeah, but they could do a class action civil suit
over a public nuisance, which is what this man's hobby amounts to. At that point, he could either settle by renting a lot somewhere (gawd knows there are enough empty lots out there that will now never be developed) or by getting rid of anything that doesn't fit on his property.

If he's got enough money to buy, register and insure all this automotive stock, he's got enough money to get it off the street.

Maybe something along the lines of a 1964 Chevy Malibu?

Hey, Mark! Got one?

28. Thanks!
I had a '65 "Chevelle Deluxe300" for 23 years (that was the model you bought if you couldn't afford the "Malibu"). I was always hoping to restore it, but never had the time, money, or space to do it.

Sold it about two years ago--it was simply getting to much for me to keep...:(

so that Americans could own as much crap as they want.

Why doesn't this guy sell the 50 Pintos and Mustang IIs -- and what is that, a '62 Mercury Montego? -- and buy a real nice classic?

It would be hard to move your cars around on 200 flat tires.

Bet it is a similiar illness. Or the people that hoard everything in their house. Yeah if I was this clown's neighbor I'd be pissed. This is one reason why it's a good idea in a an area to have laws against parking unregistered uninspected vehicles on streets.

I feel for his neighbors/community.

And before anyone says it, no, it wouldn't be okay if these were all nice musclecars and exotics. But then those would have been long since stolen by now.
