I wonder if Harry Reid will get a spine now that he came close to the precipice |
|
or join Obama in continued compromise while his base grows more detached.

5. Not a chance. He now has a Republican House to blame his lack of spine |
|
While he runs away scared of confronting anyone or standing up for meaningful legislation.

6. It shouldn't matter very much ... |
|
... because Reid should have to give-up being Majority Leader; after all he presided over a devastating loss of colleagues.
His time is over ... if it isn't, then that will be an early sign that 2012 will be worse than yesterday.

7. I got exactly the opposite impression from his win |

I think we can see now why he is the Majority leader after pulling off this win.
He is a poor spokeman for the Democratic senators but he is certainly a shrewd, and extremely skilled political operator.

8. Bill Clinton looms large....he rolled whatever way the triangulating winds took him and |
|
urged DC Dems to do the same. Too bad so many of us claimed his reign was 'successful' when on closer examination, it had no GOOD lasting effect on anything....Bush reversed all good within a year....but, the bad is STILL the cause of suffering.

9. He had a lot of spine to take himself to that precipice. |
|
I often think Reid comes off as a bit of a milquetoast, but, considering he was up for re-election this year, he was pretty gutsy. I'm not sure about the wisdom of keeping the Majority Leader spot in the hands of a Senator who faces an election in only two years.
I do predict that Reid will be a lot tougher now that he has six years of altitude.

So, no, there's no spine in the offing.
