The REAL Problems
Edited on Fri Nov-05-10 08:47 AM by EnlightenedOne
#1 is Fox "news" - if we ever hope to really prevail as an educated voting populace, there must be a concerted effort to get the message out somehow (letters to the editor in every newspaper) - and really, I don't know how else to combat it. This 24 hour propaganda station blatantly lies day in and day out to its loyal listeners. It is and has been a bane on our society and will continue to be until it is stopped.

Gotta admit Karl Rove was a genius here - 9/11 attack, everyone tunes to Fox, Fox tells them they are the "christian" media, churches (thanks to pamphlets from the RNC) start to extol Bush and the wars, and the "christians" believe the only REAL news if Fox.

One of our Democrats desperately needs to take up this mantle - and rule once again that the news media cannot lie.

#2 - Religion. Especially where it concerns the LGBT community. A good friend of a friend died a few weeks ago who was gay - and the priest refused to give her last rites (I'm not catholic, so don't know if that is spelled right). Only after her daughter threw a fit did the priest acquiesce. There was a large article in our local paper (perhaps yours too, it may have been a national story) that a large group of chaplains (preachers, priests, etc.) wrote Obama a letter and said that they would have to resign their duty if DADT was repealed. They would resign rather than to deal with a gay solider. Where is the "love and compassion" there? You can't comfort a soldier because he's gay? As an excellent pastor stated on the Rachel Maddow show - LOVE should win out everytime. Whatever you are supposedly against or don't believe it - ask yourself what would LOVE do. Would God abandon a soldier in need? Would God abandon a dying woman's wishes? Screw those bible verses. Would gays be willing to attend church and nicely, peacefully let their presence be known? Be active in your community, help care for the sick, disabled, etc.

These 2 things are the biggest bane on our society. And until we can educate and eradicate, things are not going to change any time soon. Our politics are just a symptom of these larger problems.

The President can't do everything - and if we really do want justice and equal rights and fairness to all, we are going to have to get out there and work for it and educate. Its not going to be handed to us. There's too much money involved.

I'm very disappointed that the youth stayed home this year. They have no idea how they have screwed themselves and the rest of us.

That's all, just had to get that off my chest. A movement is required.
