that what all the fuss is about? Fox is openly partisan, so that gives everyone else a free pass?

Saint Keith broke the rules and discovered he can be taken down a notch. That's all there is to it.

On edit, for those who still don't understand he broke the rules:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19178161 /

<...>
MSNBC.com requires permission of the editor in chief.

"MSNBC.com employees who take part in civic or other outside activities, including participation in political campaigns or public events such as speeches, marches and political rallies, or who publicly espouse controversial positions, may find that these activities jeopardize their standing as objective journalists. MSNBC.com employees should report any such potential conflicts in advance to, and obtain the prior approval of, the Editor in Chief or his designee.

"If a contribution, monetary or otherwise, to a candidate or group with a political or social agenda could create the appearance of a conflict of interest due to the employee’s responsibilities at MSNBC.com, the contribution must receive the prior approval of the section Executive Producer or Editor in Chief. Any participation in a political campaign must be reported to the employee’s immediate manager.

3. No one here believes Fox should fire people because they are partisan.
Edited on Fri Nov-05-10 04:02 PM by phleshdef
Fox news should be annhilated because its yellow journalism, full of blatant lies.

I could give a shit less who Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity donated to. They are American citizens and they have the RIGHT to donate to whoever the hell they want, just as they have the right to vote for who they want. I care that they lie on national television, all the time, and get away with it.

And there was no conflict of interest created here. If anyone thought Olbermann is not a supporter of progressive causes, both on and off his television show, then they need some serious head-from-ass removal surgery.

4. Nobody seriously has suggested that Fox is anything other than propaganda.
Keith is openly partisan, as well. Not like he was doing anything underhanded or duplicitous.

It's simply ridiculous for MSNBC to enforce this rule in this way, at this time. It smacks of a post-election mop-up or an inquisition, and says more about the politics of the network than anything else.

6. Pesonally, I have never kinded the partisanship on Fox
I ONLY object to the fact that they call themselves FoxNEWS!

Changing the name to Fox Opinion would be the only change I would make.

people who like them will watch..others will not.

MSNBC has never called itself MicroSoft NEWS Broadcasting Corp.. They Do report "news" as part of their "show" format, but it's almost always been a political venue...rather tepid, until recently.

9. Who ever said fox should fire it's "partisans?"
It's called the first amendment.

It's the active campaigning on behalf of candidates or one party that isn't quite kosher. Keith did not do that.

10. I don't care if they're partisan
I do get tired of partisan's trying to pretend they're not. If Fox changed it's slogan to "Conservative entertainment for conservative Americans" or something like that rather than "fair and balanced" I'd be slightly less disgusted with the network ("very slightly, lol"). I do have some similar opinions of MSNBC, though John Stewart is right, they don't do it as well as Fox. They're trying to be a partisan news station but without Fox's focus and production value. It feels kind of confused and sloppy. Of course I think it's difficult for such a large mega corporation to put out a truly liberal product, which might explain some things. They're a bit erratic in their message at times.
