The $2.99 Gas Pact - Houston
Almost no one here is over $2.99 for the cheap stuff even though it's obvious they should be (the next grade has inched up to 3.15, 3.17, etc) I think that this is either an effect of the psychological impact to the consumer of going over $3 here and fear of them just finding another station, or, that an unofficial rule among local owners is coming into play, a pact to not go over $3, if you will. Hell, this is Oil Town Supreme.

Anyone else see anything like this in their area?

2. Ouch. Good luck.
I am actually starting to wonder what this is about now. I know some downtown / by the airport have gone over $3 but the north side stations are hanging on. It's interesting.

10. I'm pretty lucky, actually. I've gotten my driving down to maybe, worst case,
and only if I have to go north or south on business, maybe three tanksful a month. If I don't go anywhere too far afield, I can keep it to a tank a month.

And that's an economy car; a relatively low mileage, well maintained thing--an OLDIE too, over 20 years old, but it gets 33 highway!

15. You MADem are to be admired...
I commute 40 miles one way.

We bike to the store now on weekends, if needed...and most trips for grub and staples are swing ins from the commute home.

21. I'm just lucky, really. I live close enough to some shopping, and even if it's a
dime more for one thing or another, well, that's wear and tear on the car and gas saved. I also have been rigorous, for several years now, about reducing vehicle use when I can. I used to do it simply as a "Cheap Baaastid" exercise, chortling gleefully as I combined trips, delayed errands to minimize useage, and bummed rides, but now I'm glad that I'm used to the discipline!!!

I empathize with those who have a long commute. If they could come up with a good, cheap, small, affordable "commuting car" like the SMART CAR, that would help so many people who are, like you, trapped by the need to get to work, to earn the living, to pay your bills, and fill the darn car.

27. I am a major exception for Texas.
I live within walking distance of virtually all "necessaries" except my job which is about 20 mi round trip.

Some I work with have 60-70 mi round trips in their big 'ol SUVs. This is not due to choice really as cost of living is higher in "decent" areas closer in to town. My area is slipping from "decent" actually...

4. Yeah, I'm waiting for them to break...
the increments are a dime between grades so I know they SHOULD be at $3.05, $3.07...but they aren't yet. Not that I mind. But it's just so, well, coordinated. I guess when one decides to move they all might...

Yeah, I've seen some above $3, mostly downtown and that one near the airport that's always super-expensive for the rental car people.

The five-six stations on my commute are likely in a $2.99 price war or something. *2.99...sob*

12. Check it out tonight on way home...
On Monday, two stations on my commute went up from $2.81 to $2.99 in four hours from 8am to 12 noon.

I am hoping that my commute stations are stable...I needed gas this morning and put it off...

Yeah, the weird stability of $2.99 around here made me wonder. Watch it be above $3 today. Iran war games and all that.

7. $3.39 or so in Oregon for regular
And I think it's over $3 in most parts of the country by now.

I guess they don't care about the psychological impact of $3 gas in non-oil states.

11. Just came from downtown.
Lots of stations are over $3.00, I am sure it is due to location, but over by i45 and gulf bank $3.14 for the cheap.

13. As Of Monday It Was Still Holding at $2.97 thru $2.99 In Wytheville, VA...
I guess I will see, in a couple of hours, when I get to work there. The odd thing was, that the stations that typically have the highest prices (usually 4 to 8 cents higher) were in this range as well.

17. I live in Houston and can't find a job. Sure cuts down on the commuting.
I'm gonna sell my house and move to the country since I can't compete in the fucking rat race here.

I'll still have to drive a lot in the country, but there will be a lot less traffic.

I remember you from other threads. Law, right? It's crappy your connections won't help you out with jobs. Sometimes I think intelligent women should pick up and leave the state. I sure would if I weren't married.

I just signed up for the LSATs. If I don't get 170+ I'll abandon even giving it a shot and take the GRE for grad-something.

I'm an honors English major clerking at a freight company. Bleh.

Anyway, gas is cheap on the north side, apparently.

Just waiting for it to jump some more before the weekend. I'm thinking 4 dollars might be a lot closer then I ever imagined.

Haven't bought gas since Friday or paid attention, so who knows what it is near where I live. Just a bit outside of 610 loop.
