A Florida grandmother tried to sell her baby grandson for $75,000 - but agreed to take less than half that after some haggling, officials said.

Patty Bigbee, 45, was hauled off to jail Friday after handing the 9-week-old infant to a stranger for cash in a parking lot in Daytona Beach.

Bigbee's partner in the cruel game of let's make a deal was her boyfriend, Lawrence Works, 42, cops said. Both were charged with illegal sale or surrender of a child.

Police were tipped off by the prospective buyer, who said the grandmother approached and offered to sell the infant.

Authorities staged a sting operation and arrested the pair once the child was in the back of the buyer's car.

7. Adopt or foster... It's rewarding and can help a child who may only know kindness
For a brief time... Or a lifetime.

6. It seems likely she was net bettering the child's life
The attempt to sell demonstrates a level of unfitness so stark such that transferring the child to anyone with a strong interest in raising a baby is a clear win for the baby.

Not a defense, just an observation.

8. I'm struck by all the illiteracies on that newspaper front page
including that last paragraph in the linked article.

Trying to sell the child was the best thing she could have done. With the mother in prison and now granny and her boyfriend going the same place, maybe the baby will have a chance to be placed with sane people.

9. I suppose she could argue that selling the baby to someone is somehow better
than throwing it in the dumpster, like others have done. She looks considerably older than 45--I have to wonder what drug addictions she continues to battle. The baby will be better off with someone else.
