I want to post this after having posted about Barbara Bush's miscarriage. |
|
In reading some of the responses I realize that I hadn't thought about how many people have lost babies to miscarriage or stillbirth, and how deep the wounds are from such a sad and terrible event. The loss of hope and potential and the complex mixture of emotions that accompanies the death of a child is profound, and should be respected and appreciated. I am sorry for all the losses of that nature that have been experienced by people who may have had wounds opened by my post.
I was, and am, shocked and impressed by GW's parents' responses to the deaths of two of their children, this miscarriage and the three year old daughter who died of leukemia, and whose death remained virtually unacknowledged. I don't know why they chose not to tell George of his sister's death, or why Mrs. Bush thought it appropriate to show a boy in his teens, whose developmental mission in life typically would involve a heightened sense of privacy and insecurity about sexual matters, his miscarried sibling, but those things are likely to have an impact that affects one always. Clearly it had such an effect on George, whose anti-abortion stance has hurt many people.
Like many, though I despise everything GW stands for, I can feel some sympathy and sadness for a boy who had to wrap his head around things with which it would have been better had he never had to deal.
And for everyone who's had to cope with the loss of a child, born or unborn, I wish you peace.

I have to say I try not to comment on threads, and even pass judgment in my mind, about what people do in the aftermath of the death of a child. While I'm pretty sure I'll know what I'll do when my parents die, I cannot comprehend the shock, loss, and devastation people feel when their children die. Even the Santorums' decision to bring their dead baby home for a day or two makes sense to me in the theater of grief they must have felt -- in fact, I find it more understandable than the sanitization of death so many people want to do.
I'm not saying grieving people get a pass to do anything they want, but that I've seen grief manifest itself in some unusual, incomprehensible, and ultimately healing ways, and so I try to just step back and let it happen.

3. The action of his "mother" clearly show what a sick fuck she is. With those parents, it's no wonder |
|
that the entire family is so fucked up when it comes to basic human feelings. Still, they get no sympathy from me.

Barbara Bush....'Now that's a woman who knows how to hate.' She comes from the President Pierce line. Maybe there's just too much inbreeding of these rich people???? Their gene pool needs a lifeguard.

11. It's not the President Pierce line |
|
she is not descended from Franklin Pierce. They are both descendants of Thomas Pierce (1608) http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~soakbear/president.htmThere seems to be no more inbreeding in her line than in that of the average American (or European)

5. Just so you remember that W, |
|
as a little boy, put firecrackers up the asses of frogs and blew them up.
He's a psychopathic sadist. He enjoys killing people and destroying countries.

9. I know. And it's tragic. And I fear and loathe him for it. |
|
And it came from somewhere, and it's a shame in more ways than we can count.

8. I'm supposing this came from W's new book? |
|
Therefore I won't be reading it myself.
Um, displaying a miscarried baby would seem a bit weird to me. A stillborn child is one thing, a miscarriage can look frightening, depending...
It's not for me to judge the Bush's private decisions on such sensitive matters. If george wrote about stuff like that, it's just wrong.

I have suffered the miscarriage of twins and lost a son in a terrible accident , and I am appalled by what that heartless woman(Barbara Bush) did , and Rick Santorun is in my opinion a sadistic fool. Why would anyone expose their own child to that?
You try your best to explain what has happened . I could barely stand to look at the fetus. It was way to heartbreaking, let alone make my children look at it and fondle it.
The death of their brother was a whole different thing .

12. I'm so sorry you've suffered such losses. |

Those who haven't can't imagine what it's like, and though I know it never gets "better", I hope you have many other things in your life that cause you joy.

I have a great family , stimulating friends, lots of books to read and good health . Not bad for someone turning seventy this month .
I put my son in a secret place where he is always loved .
As for the miscarriage. I loved those babies, but I never really knew them . I now have identical twin grandsons and they are a REAL trip!
Do not get me wrong , the twins have nothing to do with my personal misfortune . They are who they are --- a ten year old wrecking crew!!LOL

and it was so early there was nothing to see as far I could tell, and it was before I had my two children but regardless I can't imagine showing anything like that to them. There is a lot of blood and that would be terrifying for the kids to know about.

I was about to post in defense of those who have experienced those types of losses in the other thread. People handle devastating loss in very personal ways.

16. I agree, and it wasn't meant as a criticism of ways of handling loss |
|
so much as shock at the damage that can be done by inappropriate boundary-crossing at a time when a kid is sensitive to such things. I find much to be disturbed about with the Bush family but these things can be handled myriad ways.
Btw I'm continuing to kick this back up so people can have a chance to talk if they want, since I started it with the other thread.
