VIEWERS OF THE WORLD UNITE. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT YOUR BRAINS |
|
Religion is still the opiate of the masses. But anyone who that drug fails to subdue is placated by TV or computers. We sit stupefied in front of our techno-screens while the Bourgeois rob us blind. Instead of protesting we sit mindlessly hypnotized by various technologies.
The Bourgeois are smaller than they think they are. Millionaires are a bigger target than the rapidly diminishing cannon fodder we used to call the middle class. The big movers and shakers, which are the top two percent of wealth-holders, are out to shake this globe up until they control all its wealth and power. Still we sit waiting on some TV-like hero politician to save us.
Wake up! politicians and media personalities are all servants of the almighty buck, like the rest of us. US dollars won't even make a good fire to warm you in an ice-age that might follow the impending global-warming.
Soon we can break out the pitchforks and rebel, because in the not-so-distant future that's all we'll own to regain our freedom and dignity. Slave-workers need tools.
This OP will probably vanish after about 5 recommendations and 300 readers but as I sit here fighting cancer it's all I can do to pass the truth along to the few people that still care to deal with reality.

but I'm not sure pitchforks and rebellion are the solution. Revolutions are messy and violent and don't always turn out well. If you look at the history of pitchfork type rebellions the outcome was often pretty damn bad.
We got lucky with ours back in 1776 but that has not always be the case for other people who fell oppressed, used or unheard.
I think we will survive this without resorting to violence. We've survived worse. I am an optimist even when things aren't going well.
Hang in there. This too shall pass.

3. iwish I could say large-scale protests were the solution. But it isn't working in France |
|
We already live in a police-state, where rebellion is impossible. I wish the cancer was worse so that I wouldn't have to see anymore. But doctors say radiation will cure me.

10. You never have to see it, at least right now |
|
When it gets worse, no guarantees. But since your name is Jefferson's Ghost and it's in your heart and soul, I suspect you will never turn a blind eye to this world's injustices. It sounds like this and radiation is really hurting your soul right now (I'm not talking the religious woo woo - I'm talking emotion vs. intellect). The radiation, though it might save your life, is likely making it a living hell right now. If you haven't felt the (soul) crushing tiredness yet, I'm afraid you will. And it takes quite a while after radiation to get back to feeling normal.
While you're waiting, could I suggest a book that might help ease your heart a bit, The Impossible Will Take a Little While, by Paul Loeb. That, and anything comedic that you like. Be it Jon Stewart or Peanut's comic strips. Try to keep out of the depression that the radiation is trying to foist on you (and our country is more than willing to encourage - depression is their stock in trade).

20. You know, as awful as 9/11 was, |
|
and it was awful, many of us woke up around then. I sailed through the Reagan years with nary a notice that insanity was growing and I even managed to get through the Clinton years without noticing much (how, I'll never know) but the nationalism that rose following 9/11 scared the fuck out of me and I've been awake ever since. Sometimes, I wish for the other colored pill, but mostly not. Mostly, I'm just sorry I wasted much of my adult life sleepwalking.

MY COUNTRY 'TIS OF THY PEOPLE YOU'RE DYING Buffy Sainte-Marie "Ah what can I do?" say a powerless few With a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye -- Can't you see that their poverty's profiting you."
Our poverty is profiting the very wealthy. It is harming our country to beyond recognition.
We aren't the first who have been marginalized. It should not be happening again! We must fight this injustice now.
Hope you have better and better days. Thanks for being you.

8. Unfortunately, these days in this country, it isn't religion, |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 08:51 PM by tavalon
it's Dancing With Stars. A better clarion call would be to kill the machine. Now, mind you, if you are in the hospital fighting cancer, that might not be the best time to do it. But yeah, we're going to have to take this country back and people are still holding back, waiting for that leader. That's one of the reasons so many are so mad at Obama, he tacitly promised to be that leader.
The thing that stops me from going further than emails and polls and the occasional on the ground activism, is that I am only too aware that people die during these uprisings and as a mother of a disabled child and being the main breadwinner, they have two things on me. I'm highly unlikely to join the ground force for just that reason.
Now, religion (at least in America) despite the vocal uprisings of the immoral minority, is dying. Well, except for Wicca - it's the only religion that is rising in actual numbers and that one, I think, is a different beast. You don't inherit it, you choose it. It's not one of my driving forces for staying away from flying bullets. Neither is my near death experience. I don't know what the heck is on the other side or even if there is an other side (rather than a ketamine hallucination) but whatever it is, it is kickass. But that's way aside from what you're talking about.
It's clear that the ways we've been using aren't working or are working at such a glacial pace that it's hard to see. So, we need to start figuring out how to work smarter. Something in between petitions and bullets.

You're so right, dear one:hug: These are hard times for all.....I know the future looks bleak right now... Wish I could say otherwise.
And you're going to be fine....promise.
Another thing...religion is a smile on a dog! It's true.
Hang in there....you've got friends who care.
peace & love to you~

and it's so true today. The average person cares more about "reality TV" than things that really matter.

Be comfortable. I no longer can explain the USA.
The young are disillusioned and the old are afraid and the middle are long conned.
I empathize.
